Deals and Steals / Attention Coffee Fiends
Last post by scuzzy - July 03, 2026, 12:13:52 AM
I'd sent this via a PM earlier - then thought there might be others interested - here's the PM I sent to ScottInTX and AF5US earlier:

BTW: I know you're a coffee fiend as am I. I ran across a company out of Houston that has really good deals on coffee. Free shipping orders over 50. Really good coffee too. I'd been buying the cheapo stuff from HEB (grocery store for those not in Texas) and sometimes the 'better' brands and it wasn't cheap. (Even Maxwell House and Folgers wasn't that great) - even low end. Or all that good.

However this is much cheaper and really good smooth stuff. Their Columbian and Sumatra is very good. Both K-Cups and Whole Bean.

https://aldecoacoffee.com/

The Columbian is my daily driver. Sumatra when I am up to grinding beans in the morning.

The Sumatra is expensive in K-Cups though - but if you get whole bean not much more expensive than the Columbian.

PS - just bought a 'Moka Pot' 2 months back for those late nights. It's like a cross between Expresso & Regular. If you've never tried one it's nice. Grind some fresh beans and put in on. Splash of half and half and sugar. Talk about a boost.

After Action Reports / Piqua, Ohio AAR - June 27-28,...
Last post by Doc Willi - July 02, 2026, 03:30:38 PM
It was a hot and muggy weekend with the threat of rain at times. We had a great group of students who came ready to learn. We started the day with hearing about history from Maddog1776 and Skald. We moved on and learned about safety and then shoot the first hits count target of the weekend.Out of 7 shooters, we had 3 hit all three shots in the 100, 3 hit all in the 200, 2 hit all in the 300, 1 hit all in the 400 and 2 hit the shingle with BlackKnight1300 clearing the target.

We learned the six steps of firing the shot with natural point of aim and the prone position and sling use before lunch. We worked on several drills in the process of learning this. We also worked on fitting the rifles to their shooters. All of the shooters showed improvement..

We heard the second strike of the match before learning talking targets and inches, minutes, clicks. We performed several drills including carding the sights. We then moved to learning seated and standing positions and working through an AQT.  Shadow870 reconfirmed his Rifleman with a score of 222 with a bolt action rifle. We also heard the story of the third strike of the match.

We finished the day with a hits count target. Out of 7 shooters, we had 6 hit all three shots in the 100, 7 hit all in the 200, 2 hit all in the 300, 2 hit all in the 400 and 4 hit the shingle with Shadow870 clearing the target.

Sunday brought more heat, but the students persisted. We started with reviewing the positions, six steps of firing the shot with natural point of aim, and safety before shooting the hits count target. Out of 10 shooters, we had all 10 hit all three shots in the 100, 9 hit all in the 200, 5 hit all in the 300, 3 hit all in the 400 and 2 hit the shingle.

We moved on to AQTs, Drills, and several fun shoots for the rest of the day. Alex reconfirmed his rifleman with a 210 and BlackKnight1300 also reconfirmed with 222, and 221. We ended the day with the last hits count target. Out of 9 shooters, we had 8 hit all three shots in the 100, 6 hit all in the 200, 2 hit all in the 300, 2 hit all in the 400 and 3 hit the shingle. The heat and humidity was definitely getting to everyone.

Thank you to all of the students that came to the clinic. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and I hope to see you again at another Appleseed. Danny and Jeremy, you did very well for your first Appleseed. Continue to work on dry firing in the different positions. Andy, It was great to see you again , bringing another family member.

Thank you to Piqua Fish and Game for allowing us the use of the range.

And thank you to all of the instructors that worked the event. It is very much appreciated.

Hope to see all of you at the range,
Doc Willi

P.S. more picture will be coming.

Arizona / Re: KD for AZ

Hi All I was at this range for a Pistol event some time ago and looked at the 1000 yard range for the possibility of future KDs.

I had an idea then that hasn't been discussed here as of yet. The range has slightly elevated shooting positions for 100, 200 and 300 yard ETC shooting. This is pretty common and we have the same thing at a range down here in Fl. The 400 has no defined shooting position and I think it is even close to the road at your range.  That said you could just shoot from the ground. This would mean you would have to elevate your targets slightly on the berm so you can see them from the ground-based firing position.  This is how we handle it at the range in Fl. I got down in Prone when I was there in AZ and it looked fine when I looked at it. Admittedly I don't know the range rules for the 1000 yd range.

Advantage.
You are still shooting a target directly on the berm, a requirement for many ranges.

Disadvantage.
1. Your targets are not all the way at ground level so you must ensure you have plenty of berm above the target for safety.
2. You have way too many rattlesnakes for my liking. I love snakes but you might want to check the line before putting shooters down there.

Quote from: Mr6Actual on July 01, 2026, 09:17:33 PM...there is no 400 yrd which is one of the required distances.

IAO  :)
Would the range allow moving the firing line to the 100y line to engage the 500y line? (distance to target would be 400y).

Alternatively, the KD Manual (p15, item 5) addresses the lack of a 400y target line.
