We had a GREAT shoot at the Hartford Gun Club in E. Granby this past weekend. 9 shooters, ready for anything, made for a very special event.

Saturday started wet, and got worse as the day went on. Although protected by some berms and a wind break setup by the club, rain drove thru it, threatening one end of the firing line with some flooding. The range is in a flood plain and we got to see firsthand what it can be like. One shooter was moved to the other end as his spot turned into a very soggy firing position.

The fundamentals were taught, adjustments made and we got in 2 AQT's before the days end. The first and third strikes were done indoors, giving folks a chance to warm up a bit.

Sunday started warmer, with some fog and a promise of sun. The sun came out sporadically but it wasn't what the official forecast had presented. Even with the range being basically underwater, everyone who returned showed marked improvement and 3 made Rifleman status.

First was Thad, a repeat Appleseeder who hung tough with equipment malfs and shot the score twice, a 212 and a 215. James was next, finishing the day with a 212. Peter, our iron sight shooter put it together for a 225 score, this with his Marlin bolt. Rich pushed it hard with a couple scores in the low 200's.  Both Chris and Allison showed improvement thru the weekend.

Finally, our youth shooter for the weekend, Aiden, not only showed steady improvement over both days, but hung tough with a 175 score by the end of Sunday!

A thank you goes out to the shooters, who were ready with not only their gear but in planning for the worst weather I've had at an AS in a while. Your perseverance is what makes this so worthwhile.

A big thank you goes out to the Hartford Gun Club for hosting the shoot. The range was as ready as could be, with a heavy tarp wrapped across the back and sides of the covered firing line. This made the difference in having a safe and dry environment. Pics will show the conditions, it was pretty wet!

Parallax and WhitePaladin did a grand job of instructing, demos and all other things necessary for the success of an event. They make an SB's job run much smoother.

A Rifleman persists.

Tom completes SB admin duties as Appleseeders gather to start on this cold, wet and windy Saturday morning.

After the safety brief equipment is now on the line and targets posted.

Despite the weather, morale remained high as the day wore on. A Rifleman Persists.

The Appleseeders approached Sunday with renewed enthusiasm. Building on what they had accomplished the previous day.

Congratulations to Aiden for pressing on throughout the weekend and improving greatly towards the goal of one day being a Rifleman.

Congratulations to the Rifleman! :F

Thanks Parallax, in retrospect we should have named the inland water course something like Lake Windsor.  **)

Too shallow for serious fishing but maybe a windboard? At least the geese didn't try to land there! :slap:

We had the most dedicated group of students come out to learn in the rain.  I couldn't ask for a finer group of patriots to teach, and a finer group of instructors to teach with. I throughly enjoyed this weekend.
