Revolutionary Haiku
« on: November 06, 2017, 08:10:04 AM »
I challenge Appleseed's advocates to create poems in Haiku format, now until April 19, 2018.
You may improve on mine or create your own. Just follow the simple rules of three lines with 5-7-5 syllables. No explanation required--just the poem.
How To ideas:  http://www.creative-writing-now.com/how-to-write-a-haiku.html

    April Nineteen dawn
    Liberty for us today
    Revolution lives

In Liberty,
TheMenace
Sons of Liberty!
Defend the Constitution,
The Law of Our Land

I fear, in this task
You have opened a worm can!
Submissions inbound:

(Forgive in advance
Any transgression of mine
Syllables are hard!)

Samuel Whittemore
Shot and run through thirteen times
Lived to 96

What number of troops
When grandma can capture 6
Will it take to win?

Isaac Davis stood
His strong men were unafraid
To take back the bridge

Paul Revere's wild ride
Would be a Disney Land treat
Mr Toad objects!

They mean to rule us
We have always ruled ourselves
It's not about tax

A spark. Another.
Finally the match is lit!
For Liberty all!

The Lord Hugh Percy
Distain'd Colonist marksmen
Then reconsidered

"Irregular mob?
They know what they are about!"
Don't make that mistake.

Hezakiah's aim
Across the back of his horse
Was deadly and true

Our brave men disperse
A shot rings out! The troops fire!
Parkers' men are killed

Got a second chance
To set the foes on their heels
At Parkers revenge!

The circle of fire
Is not something from Taco Bell
Hot sauce related

To arms Countrymen!
Forsake Tyranny's iron yoke
The battle has begun!
"Whoever looks upon them as an irregular mob, will find himself very much mistaken...
They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about..." - Lord Hugh Percy

"If a man's from Texas, he'll tell you.  If he's not, why embarrass him by asking?" - John Gunther

Came to take our guns
Not today we tell the scum
That day was not fun

What a great idea sir! Thanks for posting this. I know most of us are great "gunslingers", but who can be a great "wordslinger" too?

Traditionally, haiku is written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five syllables in the third line.

Here is my try at haiku "wordslinging":

April morning sun rise
Under king’s tyranny old thumb all
Sun set liberty shines down

This is fun!

Couldn't resist, more:

Over cold waters
Brought regulars to their knees
Shot heard around the world

They fired ball first
Ever we fought back red righteously
3rd strike now liberty for me

History we tell
Marksmanship we teach
Liberty we honor
Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
