My first Appleseed was only back in sept 08, this was one of the first times I have ever shot a rifle, and what a great experience that was. Being able to shoot next to Old Glory! and get help from Savageshooter, colycat and Johnny Appleseed in Winona, MN had its emotional ups and downs, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Then I went to an Appleseed in Lodi, WI, I finally understood NPOA completely. A month later I went to California and went to a mini Appleseed with Johnny Appleseed, Savageshooter and Annie Oakley. I was able to get more help with my shooting from a friend/Wisconsin Rifleman. I am moving closer to becoming a Rifleman thanks to all the help from my family and friend. I live about an hour north of Madison, WI and hopefully will meet a lot of other Wisconsinites at the Lodi Appleseed.
Hi Trisha, I was one of the shooters next to you at Lodi. Nice to hear from you!
I live in Wisconsin as well. Can't wait for the next appleseed to shoot a little less crappy. I went my entire life thinking what a crack shot i was, all to have my large ego crushed in one weekend.
Colycat and Old Glory checking in here; Sauk Co.
Trisha, Thanks for starting this welcome thread; it will be a good spot for new (and old) Wisconsin Appleseeders to warm-up!
Ahhshoot, Great moniker! Welcome to the forum. Stick with us and good things will happen to you.
Coly
I live in Abrams which is 20 miles north of Green bay.
I shoot at the Michickanee public range and the excellent private range in Suring, WI.
I made rifleman in 2007 but haven't been active in the instructor program due to a crazy work schedule. Thankfully, I've been able to cut back my work and now should have a lot of time to devote to Appleseed.
I love to take people who aren't shooters and get them shooting!
If anyone lives in the NE WI area I'd love to network with you.
Well, I already said hi in another thread, but I'll do it again here. So...... HI!
My wife and I will be at the Lodi Appleseed and I'm bringing at least 3 friends, and possibly as many as 7.
Checking in from Southern WI. I have not been to an Appleseed shoot yet, but it's on my to do list. If there is anything else I can do please feel free to contact me. My goal is to be an instructor, if at all possible.
Cheers,
Johnnyblades
Come on Wisconsinites, there are more of you out there, so come and check in!
OK Trisha,
Colycat checking in from Baraboo WI, I like to shoot in Illinios(ucks), California, Tennessee, Kentucky, Minnesota, and oh yeh, Wisconsin, And many more this year :~ :~ :~ :~ :~ :~
New member here, saying Hello! I stumbled upon RWVA and Appleseed when looking for more information and reviews about the 10/22, and it caught my eye.
I will be picking up my 10/22 this week - I'll be getting a sling, then new sights, and I'm aiming to hit the nearby Appleseeds in March and/or April.
I used to shoot .22 rifle (bolt action, mostly prone, some 3-position) back when I was but a pup (early 80's), got out of it for a (long) while, got into rim.22 pistol bullseye shooting about 14 years ago, stopped due to shoulder injury and marriage, and now am aching to get back into rifle competition.
Hope to see some of you in either March or April!
Tony Merlock
- Oh, to answer the original questions... I'm in SE wisconsin. I shoot pistols at Fletcher Arms on occasion, and less frequently at The Outdoorsman in NE Illinois (have family there). Barring major incident, I'll be joining the Daniel Boone Conservation League in March, so I'll be shooting there primarily.
Also, I have a "vintage" Bob Allen canvas shooting jacket with rubber elbow pads and thick leather shoulder/bicep pads that I used when I was a teen. Doesn't come close to fitting me now (not even if I lose the 40 lbs I've gained since I got married), but if anyone can use a size 38 shooting jacket, and doesn't mind a used one (in pretty good condition, but with a broken button), I'm willing to give it away.
Tmbrlock,
By all means go to the Racine event, and of corse Lodi. Welcome to Appleseed and I hope to meet you in Lodi.

Tmrlock,
Welcome back to shooting, Appleseed and the working forum. :)
If you don't mind, we'll put you right to work. @) Here is the event page for the Racine Appleseed.
http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=5844.0
At the bottom of the page is a flyer for the March 14-15 shoot.
Print a couple off and hang them up in your area, or give them to your friends; we'll get that March 14-15 Racine line full. There are some excellent instructors coming up from ILL.
Looking forward to meeting you on the trail.

Hello All,
Please allow me to introduce myself; I am Ken a.k.a. kilogulf59 and I am in Juneau County WI.
For a bit about me, I am just an average middle-aged gent who is interested in integrated close combat methods with and without weapons, general and reasonable preparedness, and all things of that nature. In addition, I maintain a great fondness for history, the written word, and little hunting and fishing tossed in as well.
For an insight into my mindset and therefore my thought process, personally I believe in simplicity and the common sense approach in all areas, to include preparedness and confrontational management. It is my express opinion that true combat is not esoteric nor is it convoluted...it is unpretentious, fleeting, and extremely brutal and that man is THE weapon, everything else is simply an object. As founder and administrator of the Integrated Close Combat Forum, which is a free and nonprofit site dedicated to the education of the layperson and professional-at-arms alike, I have striven to emphasize this methodology.
I will tell you that I am significantly influenced by the teachings of some of the true innovators in the Combatives field. "Shooting to Live" is my Old Testament and "Kill Or Get Killed" my New Testament, so to speak and no blasphemy intended. Of course, that would make Lt. Col. Fairbairn, Maj. Sykes, Col. Applegate, Col. Askins, Col. Jordan, S.A. Brice, Maj. Grant-Taylor, et al, the disciples should I maintain the religious analogy.
As far as my personal background is concerned, I was born and raised in Chicago so, by default, I unfortunately learned a little "confrontational management" the hard way; on the streets, mainly in what not to do...like bleed. My training experience includes Modern Arnis, Miyama Ryu Jujutsu, and FSA style combatives. Formal handgun education was initially through the Chicago P.D. Explorer Program in my youth, later as an adult I attended classes taught by a retired Chicago P.D. Firearms, NRA Certified, and Chapman Academy Instructor and the FSA combat shooting skills that I have learned on my own and with the guidance of a few select instructors in the field.
My current maxim of choice is "REMEMBER - What works for you may not, necessarily, work for me. Keep an open mind!" and I do believe this.
That's about it for now as I am certain I have bored you lone enough. Oh, I am hoping to make my first Appleseed outing at Lodi on April 18th & 19th.- Thank You.

Welcome to Appleseed, Ken. Hopefully, you can add the mission of Appleseed to your interests. You will find that the Appleseed mission is deliberately narrow and focused. The same can be said about this forum. Appleseed is not so much about preparedness as it is about awakening and motivating. It is about waking America up and getting Americans off of the couch and to an Appleseed, after which we hope that they will want to plant the seed in others. Although there are many Iceburgs out there to get our attention on a daily basis, we leave the discussion and alert of these to other organizations and forums. It is all Appleseed all of the time here and we are growing at an ever increasing rate so we need help to support this. Here in Wisconsin we went from 1 Appleseed a year to 3 last year to at least 10 and hopefully 20 by the time we are done this year. Between the information found posted in the forum and the nuggets you can find in the blogs, there is plenty to read to give you some insight into the realm of Appleseed.
Kilogulf59,
Welcome to the forum, and Appleseed. Sign up for Lodi, QUICKLY. As of Tuesday, there are 28 pre-regs with room for 31. If you enjoy history, you will enjoy hearing all the events surrounding April 19, 1775 told on an Appleseed weekend. Dat B da plaze...yeah or na?
so we only have like 9 people in Wisconsin???? This doesn't seem right, does it?
Trisha,
We may or may not have more from WI. The problem here is it's a state of deer hunters not active shooters. That's why we can't get CCW pasted and such. No one will do anything unless their "deer rifle" is threatened...
Just stopping in to say hi.
Had fun in Racine over the weekend
Welcome to Appleseed Muskyjerk.
I'm in SE Wisconsin, I also shoot at Fletcher Arms.
I just signed up for the Lodi, WI shoot. I'm trying to find out if there will be camping. Anyone have any info?
CAMP SITES ARE LISTED ON THE EVENT PAGE. THERE IS A CAMP GROUND ABOUT 1 MILE FROM THE RANGE. SEE YOU THERE :~ :~ :~
Make that ten people from the Badger.
Checking in from Necedah here. I'll be headed to Lodi in april with 3 other tagalongs.. At least I won't be by myself........
Welcome to Appleseed Colorado. Camping information for Lodi is at:

Hello Fellow Appleseeders,
Went to my second Appleseed in Lodi this past weekend. Not quite a Riflewoman, but getting there. Maybe three's a charm! I had a great time and learned (and unlearned) a lot. I want to thank all the instructors for their patience and knowledge. Thanks, Trisha, I am going to work on my dragging wood issue with some dry firing and hopefully it will improve by July in Lodi. It was great to see women instructors and shooters. What a great group of people, glad to have met you all and look forward to seeing everyone again.
Welcome to the forum Libby! I am glad you were able to make it out to the Lodi Appleseed and I hope to see you again. It took me three Appleseeds to get my Rifleman's patch, and I bet you will get yours in the near future!

A great Appleseed Master Instructor (who also happens to have a motorcycle in his moniker ;)) once leaned over me while I was on the line shooting and said something like, "move your trigger THUMB to the top of the rifle stock so that you are not gripping the rifle with your thumb; lay the thumb on the top of the stock. This will help prevent dragging wood." Thought I'd pass that wisdom along. You are right on, dry firing, by the numbers. Remember the steady hold factors, practice acquiring your NPOA, dry fire, WITH NO ROUNDS, practice mag changes, shifting your NPOA between two targets. Wow, there is a lot you can do at home.

Ha! I see my lovely bride has a new alter ego, Libby T (I get it, Liberty!). I'll make sure she gets lots of dry fire practice, and I have the 50' scaled QDAQT for us to practice at our local indoor range, which was underwater until just last Friday. For those of you who don't know us, we were the ones dressed alike on the line at Lodi. Wierd, I know, but hey when Sportsman's Guide has a sale, you gotta snap that stuff up! See you all at the next Appleseed!
Add one more from Wisconsin. North Central/Northwest region.
I have yet to attend an Appleseed but I hope to as soon as possible. My wife even wants to come with. We just need to get her a rifle so she can join in the fun.
Regimund,
Welcome! I hope to meet you at an Appleseed soon! Try and come to Shiocton June 6/7th if you can. It is a wonderful range (500 yards!) and it will be a great time!

Welcome Reginmund. I am happy to hear your wife wants to come with you. Did someone mention shopping?! :D
Chime in if you have any questions, and comments too.

Thanks bedford and Old Glory!
Depending on work schedules and all we are going to try to make at least one shoot this year. Unfortunatly we won't be able to make the June 6/7 shoot. The wife's birthday is on the 5th and we are celebrating it on the 6th. So possibly one this fall or later in the summer.
My wife loves to shoot, that is why we are getting her a rifle. She already has a P22 that I got her for Christmas...lol But I am in the market for a new .22 myself. I prefer bolt action and she wants semi; a CZ452 for me and a Remington 597 for her is the plan.
Hopefully in time we'll both earn the right to call ourselves a rifleman/riflewoman.
Now if I could just convince my grandmother to sell me the family farm instead of waiting on inheriting it...lol (80 acres, 40 under plow, 40 mixed wood, pond, stream, bordering to 2 state highways... Just needs a range. ;))
Just convince her to let you set up a range now, and everybody wins. ;)
Trust me, I've tried! She's fine with my wife and I shooting on there (I grew up on that farm), but she isn't too keen on me setting up a semi permanent/permanent range yet.
So, send her on one of them week-long cruises, while she's off soaking up the warm rays of the caribean sun, we can have an RBC. ;D
She'll never know we were there. ;)
Or, perhaps, if she came to an Appleseed and saw what was acting; she may be more receptive to the idea. ++)
HAHA! **) If I could afford to do that I would!
Someday there will be a range on that farm... :~ There just aren't enough GOOD places to shoot near there. Where I live now (Eau Claire) there are a few places that we shoot at, but the easiest to access are also the ones that you have to watch out for who is shooting near you. %) (Remember: Beer + guns = ++))
Out at the farm we have the land to shoot, but currently there is no room to shoot. The land is rented out for crop farming. Right now we just shoot down by the pond but it's not even 20 yards long, plus if you mess up a shot it could be dangerous due to its location. So, it goes without saying only trusted friends get to shoot there, and only when we are there. A better spot for a range would be in the old cow pasture, but that would take a few weeks of SOLID work to even get it close to set up for a "basic" range since it would be mainly my wife and I doing the labor by hand... Living 45 minutes from the farm doesn't make it any easier to accomplish... :-\
This weekend when I go to visit I will try talking to my grandmother about allowing me to set up a shot .22 only range. Say something out to 50 yards/meters or so? Can't really go farther, but at that distance it wouldn't be too hard to set up a 25 and a 50 line. Couldn't really go more than 4 or 5 lanes wide (at 4' per lane) due to the location, but it would be a start. O0
You've got to start somewhere. ;)
By the way, I'm sure if you look around you may be able to find some people in WI. ::)
The kind that love to volunteer their time. ::)
The kind of people who get things done. ::)
Hmm... I wonder where you could start.... ::)
Hey Reginmund,
you and your wife need to get to an Appleseed ASAP. There's one in Elk river MN May 8 and 9, Shiocton WI June 6 and 7th, Lodi WI July 25-26th and many more. Find a relative or friend you have'nt seen in a while is there an Appleseed nearby? Take a look at the Appleseed schedule and plan a great weekend for you and your wife learning to shoot and some great Rev. war history.
I know off topic but we need to get some Appleseeder's from your part of the state get some seed's planted and we get more interest and then we can find or build a range closer to you.
See on the trail soon.

Hi all,
Im the bald one that truckrjoe dragged down to the lodi shoot from necedah. Man, what a great time, and I learned allot!! So many new things to me, such as, first time using a sling for what it is actually for, npoa- your not supposed to muscle it, and many other things. I guess I shouldnt be surprised by how much I didnt know (you dont know) as I have always approached shooting as kind of a stress reliever, just plinking. Now, however, my shooting skills (dont laugh) have been measured and now I have a goal in mind(you know the goal)!! Even if I approached the appleseed project as a great tool to improve my shooting, it would be worth it, but it is so much more O0 Nice, organized, knowledgeable, willing to help and patient are just a few words I would use to describe the instructors, not to mention my fellow shooters! Thank you all for the opportunity and I will be to another appleseed. (want that patch ya know)
John
Tallbaldone,
Great screen name! I knew exactly who you are! You have got good fundamentals, keep dry firing, 6 steps, you'll make rifleman by the fall. O0
I am glad you are involved and hope to see you soon at another shoot!
Bedford
Bedford,
This is the fist forum that I have joined also and with a big bald head its not to hard to pick me out in a crowd so I thought what the heck. And I am not very good with names but faces are good so descriptive is good. You can bet I will be dry firing, I think I underestimated its value. Colorado had taken the time to print and laminate the 6 steps (business card sized) and was kind enough to give me a copy, which I now carry in my wallet. That should help with my mind over lead control :) All of your insights were very helpful. Yours and all of the instructors -- what a great team! Thanks again all of you.
John
It was a pleasure meeting and working with you Tallbaldone. I know we both struggled for a little bit with your sling since you are left handed, but we figured it out with a bit of trial and error. Don't forget to find a GI sling, it will make your life a little easier when you putting on and taking off your sling. You always seemed to be positive throughout the weekend, which is always refreshing so keep it up and you will get that Rifleman's patch soon enough.
You should go onto the Lodi After Action Report and let everyone know your experiences there, I know we all would like to hear about it. Maybe I'll see you in Shiocton...???
AFTERMATH: I know we have to start somewhere, and I have seen just how dedicated the AS members from WI (and our neighboring states) are. The issue with getting outside help is that this is private land that is not mine yet. Someday it will be, but not yet. I'm sure with very little coaxing I can get one or two family members to help with the work. Just have to remember: good things come to those who wait. There ARE places to shoot/train around here, just not always the nicest, but they do work. Plus there are a few Appleseeds that are within driving distance so it isn't anything that has to be rushed (the range building that is). My grandmother is Danish and after being married to my German grandfather for many years, she has grown stubborn in her old age...lol Push to hard and it's a no go, gently lead and things will work out in the end. O0
dragonfly: I agree that we need to get to an Appleseed as soon as we can. Unfortunately most if not all of the "near by" ones fall on work weekends. Most other weekends that we do not work, we have other obligations to attend to. We WILL be attending at least one this year, most likely in the fall. If we can manage between other responsibilities we will go sooner. I completely agree with you that we need (many) more people in this area of the state to join up, and I have been reading the forum today trying to find different ways for getting people interested. I have gotten about 5 or 6 ideas that might work here. I know there are many out there and with the right method they will show themselves. The biggest problem is convincing the (for lack of a better word) "liberals" around here that this is a worthwhile project. There is too much infighting around here for my tastes, and would rather be back on the farm; but right now this is where I need to be, and once I find how to get people to listen it will give a MUCH larger audience. :)
Welcome to the forum tallbaldone. Hopefully my wife and I will have as good of an experience as you did at our first AS. I'm glad to hear how highly you speak of the instructors. O0
Trisha,
A pleasure as well, you made me and it appears everyone there very comfortable, which is key in any kind of successful learning environment! That sling thing is a tough deal for me but thanks to you I might make it ;D. Your right this is getting a little off topic so I will move this over to after action report.
Reginmund,
Thanks and welcome to the forum as well. If this appleseed shoot(in lodi) is anything like the other events (enthusiasm and dedication abounded), I know you and your wife will enjoy the time spent and learn allot 2 O0
John
Welcome to all the new WI Appleseeders. :~ Sign in here please.
Hello :)
My wife and I just signed up for the August 29-30 Appleseed last week. Setting up a Marlin 795 and borrowing a loaner to get started. We live in Racine, so the commute won't be bad :P
Those folks at Tech Sites are something else. I ordered my sites on Friday and they're in my mailbox on Monday. Now I'm hopping for the gun to come in so I can put them on!
I'm really excited about this. I lived in an area where I could walk to a safe shooting area about a hundred yards long, about ten years ago, and shot all the time. Since then I've done very little. I thought I was a pretty good shot once. Now we'll see. Eat crow or get my patch, I'll still have a blast!
See some of you there I hope :~
Hi Everyone,
I have been lurking around the forum but haven't posted here yet.
Name is Jeremy Smith and I live in Oregon, WI.
April 19, 2009 I earned my Rifleman patch with help from Colycat, JRTurbo, Griffen, Trisha, Ahhshoot and Old Glory.
Colycat and JRTurbo did such a great job with the 7 steps that I was hooked on the 'seed'!!!
I was priviledged to start wearing an orange hat and my first AS as an IIT was at Bloomington, Illinois(ucks) the end of May. I learned a ton from Sheepdog, EEL, Pappy, Revielle and The Editor. Dont tell Colycat I said this but they really have it together "down south".
I have been working hard and studying the program of instruction and the course of fire. I am really looking forward to working with everyone at Lodi, Bristol, Racine, Hubertus and then Lodi again in October!
Deacon
Endpoint, Welcome to Appleseed! I look forward to meeting you and your wife. There is always Bristol, not too far from you, August 15-16 if you just cannot wait until the end of August. ;)
Deacon, It is an honor to have you in working in Appleseed. We heavily encourage raiding the southern border to learn all the secrets of their most effective 3-man teams. :~

Welcome to all the new WI Appleseeders. :~ Sign in here please.
My wife and I are newly retired and still getting used to having more time together.... :D In the spirit of sharing each other's interests, she asked to come along to the 29-30 Racine Appleseed Shoot. She's never fired a rifle and neither of us have fired from the different positions with or without a sling. We don't expect miracles, only to learn a lot and have some fun.
After I signed up, I thought I would be directed to a website which outlined what to bring and what to practice, but I was locked out of it even though I'm signed up. Any suggestions? Would somebody share that address with me again, please?
Thanks,
Dave
Davegran first off welcome to the forum and I do hope you have an incredible time in Racine. Second, here is a link you can go to that will help answer all of your questions, I hope that helps! http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=170.0 (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=170.0)
Deacon, I don't think I ever properly welcomed you either to the forum, so welcome to the Appleseed forum! :))
Hello, hello, hello........anyone out there??
Hi Everyone!
I'm Renee from Lodi, WI and have attended the Appleseeds in Lodi in July and Oct. I met some incredible people! (Including some from IL - SHHH!!! Don't tell them I think they rock too!) Thanks to everyone and all your hard work. I was very impressed with the organization and professionalism of the instructor crews I had a chance to meet.
What stuck with me most from my appleseed experiences were:
First from July - I think it was colycat (forgive me if I didn't remember exactly who said this) talking about how Paul Reverve was able to muster 14,000 men that night to fight the redcoats. And the challenge was, even with modern technology, could you find 1400? 140 even 14 Riflemen ready and willing to answer that call. And it really struck me hard, that I doubt I could find 2 people outside of my family. I want to be able to tell my grandchildren that I did something to make a difference. That even if things don't turn out well, I was one that "fought" the soft fight first. I got involved and I would be one that would be ready and willing to answer that call. I really wanted to "know what I was about" - a True Rifleman, even though I'm a girl!
Second from October - from Deacon - on following examples of those before us. We have an amazing history, filled with courage and selflishness and faith. Those brave men and women gave their all for posterity and freedom. How can we do any less?
So, I am excited to get involved but not sure where to start.
welcome LadyVetch! It has been great working with you in Lodi and if you have any questions please just feel free to ask.
Hey if your near Mauston and want to do some shootin' when it warms up a bit lemme know, we can step out back and pop off a few.
Hello from Greenville,
How is every one ? I'm hoping to shoot a couple appleseeds this year , Shiocton (home range) and maybe Suamico but thats more of a drive
but I guess I did drive to MN for one last Sep. LOL !! **)
O and I think I'm going to try to shoot Rifleman left handed this year !!
Hiya CGinWI!
If you find yourself down toward Racine we have a great range down here with 4 shoots this year! If not, maybe I'll see ya at a shoot up there :)

We have an Appleseed at New Lisbon! Here is the WI schedule so far.
http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=10533.0
Welcome to all the new AS'ers who live "Behind The Cheddar Curtain".
Joe Z,
Sorry I missed you query. It's not a formal range and maybe 100 yds before running into trees.

Old Glory,
Yeah finally...it was a long wait but I'm going and my daughter Gina is coming as well. She'll probably go to Lodi with me later this year also. She got her M795 for Christmas and she's like a little kid with a new toy...LOL
Kilo, that is a fine looking DAR! O0
Hey thanks...I think...pardon me but what's a DAR?
Last I heard that meant Daughters of the American Revolution... :)
"DAR" Dedicated Appleseed Range.
Oh, OK...I guess so with some work.
We have shovels. ;)
Hello everyone,
My name is Martin and I live in Northwest Wisconsin (not too far from Minneapolis/St.Paul).
My first shoot was in Schiocton last June with Colycat and didn't fully realize what was needed to shoot the course until then.It was a pretty wet weekend so Colycat was kind enough to let me have a few targets so I practiced thru the summer. I signed up for Lodi in October and received my Rifleman patch there. I was asked if I would consider being an instructor and after thinkin about it for a month or 2 , decided to do it. Deacon's been kind enough to get me the instructors manuals and so, I been busy studying them.
I've picked up a Ruger 10/22 Compact that I fixed up for my wife and I'm hoping to get her a Rifleman patch next summer. I also was able to get a M1 Garand that I'm going to use at some of the longer ranges. Can't wait!
Hello Martin. Welcome aboard! O0
That 10-22 is not just for the wife, right? An LTR keeps you sharp at low cost and many people can shoot rimfire just in their backyard. Old campaign signs make great target backers and not much is needed for a 22 backstop.
The M1 Garand from the CMP is still the best deal for a battle rifle. For a little more than an AK or SKS, and about the same as a cheap AR15 you get the quickest reloading semi auto in 30-06 (and prob the same cal. as your deer rifle) with the best iron sights devised by man. Not to mention the legendary reliability.
QuoteI was asked if I would consider being an instructor and after thinkin about it for a month or 2 , decided to do it.
It's better to make commitments under serious deliberation than to jump in impetuously and find out you can't or won't proceed. That person does the program and himself no good.
Hope to see you again soon,
JoeZ
Welcome aboard martin. O0

Thanks for the welcome,
This is my first experience with both the 10/22 and the Garand. I've been both impressed and disappointed with the 10/22. For me I got a heavy barrelled one that shoots very good. They seem reliable and quite a deal for the money. ( and just plain fun!) But I'm kinda old school and have a tough time swallowing the fact they use plastic for the trigger housing and trigger. Yeah, I know about Glocks and XD's but ,,,,,,
I've wanted a Garand since I was taught how to shoot by my father, using one. I ordered a service grade that took 3 months to get, was well worth the wait. It's all matching and appears to be test fired only. The wood is a little rough but original. I'm going to take it with me down to Ramseur later this month and hopefully learn to properly shoot it.

I'm with you on that. Just something special about wood and steel in a rifle. Class and character, But at least the 10/22 is still made in the good old USA. O0
Take care,

Hello from Madison. An adult son and I plan to sign up for Lodi in April. We might go to Shiocton also; I grew up 7 miles from there. I'm still reading the info, but it looks like we should each bring a .22 and a center-fire. :)
Cheeser,
Welcome to Appleseed and the forum. Yes bring both. Great forum name by the way. ;D Hope to see you in Shiocton this weekend. on the trail....somewhere. ++)

OG,
I didn't see Shiocton on the schedule for the weekend....... ++) I am headed to Suamico! O0
Cheeser, I am just south of you in Oregon. Send me a PM if you have any questions about the upcoming shoots. I look forward to meeting both of you!

Hasn't even been to an Appleseed yet and already trying to confuse the poor guy. ;)
Hey Cheeser :cool2:, Welcome to the Appleseed forum and hope to see you in Lodi April 17 and 18 and in Shiocton June 5th and 6th. :--- :--- :--- or anywhere else you my want to attend an Appleseed.
D-fly @)
My bad, Cheeser $$-0
Suamico, Suamico, Suamico this weekend. :---
well first off i'm new (here, not to shooting) and i'm a F.I.B. ...... i know eeeeewwwww..... i live about 20 mins from the IL/WI boarder so i might make a few southern WI shoots ... anything south of milwaukee is fair game for me.
Mike
Thorn, welcome to Wisconsin. How about the Racine shoot in March? Bring a car load of friends and get the year off to a good start ^:)^
BTW, since Appleseed, there are no FIB's anymore O0 We have officialy combined the two states to form Wisinoise, yes, even Chicago is included ;)
I am a small mammal, kind of dog's cousin. Is known for quick mind and healthy humor (stupid rabbitses don't understand it). A target for some bad furbearer hunters. I shall come to one of WI (or neighbouring states if I feel like it) appleseeds on April 17th.
Big Brother don't need to know more, does he?

Garands are a beautiful piece of work, but .30-06 ammo is expensive and you can buy a 10/22 and doll it up for what you will pay just in center fire ammo for a weekend at Appleseed. Everything you train and learn with a .22 applies directly to a center fire. O0

Thanks for the welcome. Signed up with a son for Lodi in April. We'll see how badly I embarrass myself before signing up for Shiocton. ^-^
How many are signed up for Lodi?
Cheeser ..:..
Cheeser,
22 for Lodi. Still room for a few more. Bring a friend. Don't worry, you won't embarrass yourself cuz you've been dry-firing at home. ;)
OG
Greetings
Will be shooting my first Appleseed in April at Huburtus. Bringing my girlfriend along.
Have been wanting to do this for a few years. Finally getting off my posterior.
Belong to Menomonee Falls Rod and Gun Club, member of Waukesha Hangun League, Board member of WI-FORCE.
Main discipline is conventional(bullseye) pistol.
Shoot CMP matches at MFR&GC for S&G's.
First question: is a leather sling ok?
Hi Thaddieus the Bear!
Any sling is okay because we'll work with what you bring. Is it a USGI-type (1907) leather sling, such as you'd find on an M1 or an M1A?
Mogs
Hi Mogs
Yes, it is a GI type Turner Saddlery sling. Bringing my Garand which I shoot for CMP high power fun matches.
TU
Cheeser,
Won't nobody embarass themselves more than I did at my 1st shoot :P
Do your dry firing practice at home like OG says ~~:)
Take the young'n and have a ball. Youse WI folks know how to do it up right. You'll have a good time.
EEL
First off welcome to all, Ken here from Juneau Co. WI.
Second, my oldest, Gina (27) and I are going to Lodi, Winnequah Gun Club on APRIL 17-18.
Thirdly, my youngest, Matt (25) can't make Lodi but will probably go with us to New Lisbon, M&M Sport Shop and Shooting Range in May.
Gina is all wound up to make rifleman and Matt just can't let his sis best him! The lesson here is use sibling rivalry to promote Appleseed O0
kilo,
A little healthy competition between siblings!
I'll be in Spooner April 17-18, but will hopefully get a chance to meet you in person at New Lisbon.
Thanks for bringing the family to Appleseed!
Thanks to Appleseed for having us....
Will any of your family be at Lodi?
Kilo, I will be the only one from the family there that weekend. We all had to spread out since there were so many ASs that needed instructors to cover it.
Can't wait to see you there. I have been looking forward to Lodi for a long while now.
Hey...Can I check in too? :cool2:
Hello everyone. As you can tell I am a newbie. I just found out about this a couple weeks ago, and signed up for the Suamico on the 17th. I am really looking forward to losing some bad habits and picking up some good habits that Saturday. Looks like I need to buy a sling for my 10/22!

Welcome to Appleseed and the forum Chewbaca,
You are in for some great instruction at Suamico. Use of the sling is taught first thing on Sat a.m. You will find the sling that RWVA recommends here:
http://www.appleseedstore.flyingcart.com/?p=detail&pid=10&cat_id=0
Sometimes instructors have extras for sale in their range bag. Let's put the question out there to the instructors for Suamico on this thread.

Lilkilogulf aka Gina has applied to join the forum. I told her to just come to the beer & brat board cause we'll be shooting up hear.
(she a FIB but is cheddar at heart...LOL)
Hello everyone, lilkilogulf here. I'd like to briefly introduce myself. As my dear father (kilogulf59) already mentioned I am indeed a FIB, but all Wisconsin at heart and stuck in ILLannoy due to my job. I currently live on the Northwest side of Chicago, but make the 200 mile trek up to my folks as often as I can. I'm also looking forward to continued attendance at future Appleseed events.
Hello.
User name Taylor, real name Mike Palucci. In the process of becoming a full time WI resident. Have had a place between Hayward and Minong for 5 years or so and will make it full time home as soon as someone buys my IL house. Born and raised in the Chicago area but have know that I belong in the north woods since I was a little kid tagging along on my Grandfather's (Taylor) annual fishing trip up north. Shot my second Appleseed this past weekend down in Spooner and couldn't have found a finer group of people to spend 2 great days with. Trying to spread the Appleseed word down in IL as contrary to myth there are still quite a few right-minded people left. They just need to get organized and take the state back from the corrupt politicians. Looking forward to my next Appleseed and helping out once I get past the move.
Welcome lilkilogulf and Taylor hope to see you on the trail soon O0.
Hey Gina, We like to call it ILsucks ^:)^, but as you will find we have a great relationship with our fellow Appleseeder's from the south. Garand69 is ILsucks State Coordinator. Lots of great Appleseed's down under the chedder curtain as well.

reckless is a nickname from my early driving years and not how I handle a firearm,I;m 40 years old and have been fortunate enough to see alot different places in our world and I know for sure that I want to raise my family here in wisconsin-USA-there are so many great opportunities and blessings that we have that i can't be thankfull enough. Our founding fathers did a great job sacrificing and setting up our country,I let our local, state and US Representatives know how I feel every year and find something positive that they've done.I do hold "the people" responsible for our government(the government can only be as strong as the people).I'm also a eagle scout that will do a good turn every day.I just got my rifleman last weekend with my 10/22 and will comeback next to get it again with my AR,I never did excel in school but I can't get enough history "appleseed style",I a big fan of simple raw machines sans the computers and fuel injection, the first motorcycle I everbuilt has less than 12 wires,I also believe that education is the key...and I want the answer to the billion dollar question..Why do people make it hard on themselves physically and mentally when they know there is a simpler way to get the job done?Enjoy the weekend
Name here in Bronk(Jerry) First Appleseed was at Shooting of last year, then attended the Sunday shoot in Suamico in April. Hit rifleman once in Shooting, and then sealed the deal 3 times in a row in Suamico. Army veteran who did his tour in the box(Light Infantry in Iraq), graduate of the US Army Small Arms Marksmanship Instructor Course, Army Sniper school(Class 03-05) at Camp Robinson, and recreational shooter since 12 years old. Shooting also has been, and will continue to be a big part of my life.
Live just north of Green Bay in Little Suamico, and have a 12 year old son who also shoots with me. Looking to get my 10 year old daughter into it this summer. Attracted by the Appleseed when I stumbled across the articles in Shotgun News. After attending my first, am hooked. Oh and almost forgot to mention I also like the big bore stuff(I shoot .50 BMG matches as well) There we have engaged targets out to 1750 meters!
Modified original post a bit. ++)
hey could use some advise for my AR flattop..I have a junk carryhandle with a sight that might be made by leapers the 2 main problems are the sight is canted to the side depending on your elevation adjustment which is not dependable and consistant.I plan to shoot out as far as the gun and my eyes will let me,peep sights are a must right now and would appreciate any advise...thanks

Reckless,
Rock River Arms makes a descent unit for a flat top. You could get a carry handle type or just a rear sight. Which ever you pick, get the 1/4 x 1/4 adjustment if you are going to shoot seeds with it.
You could also look at Brownell or Midway USA and you will have so many choices it would make your head spin. You will be looking at $75-100 for a durable, repeatable, dependable rear sight.

Never really impressed with the NRA types and their 2000.00 target rifles, buckled up jackets, etc, etc. They are trigger pullers, and not really rifleman in my eye's.

Hey, that is me you're talking about :-\. Seeing that my match rifle didn't cost 2k, can we still be friends? O0
Sorry. A bit snobbish maybe on my end. Shooting for me means a sandsock, mil-dot master, spotting scope, while wearing a ghiliie suit! Combat ready, real world weapons, in a somewhat real world shooting situation. It's why I like the timed portion of the Appleseed shoots as well. 10 minutes to shoot 10 rounds is just giving it away in my mind ;D(//)

Two cents and a soapbox.
Being new to appleseed, I haven't met everyone nor experienced many different egos.
Not being new to shooting, I have met many, many, many, different egos. With those come the connected attitudes.
I don't have the same background, but know a few who do. They also happen to shoot highpower. Personally, conventional pistol is my discilpine of choice.
Your style of shooting is great for you. Others maybe farther removed from it.
You don't like 2000 dollar match guns, I understand the LTR concept but don't agree with classifing as a rifleman with a .22.
I think mouse guns make it too easy, but they have brought more women and kids into rifle shooting.
Bottom line is If I don't make the rules,my opinions are just that.
I joke with people about thier disciplines and choice of equipment. I receive a fair ration of excrement about mine.
We are ALL trigger pullers. WE have common threads in our lives. I don't really care what you shoot as long as we recognize the common foes to our sport and way of life. We either stand together or kiss it all goodbye.
Am I out of line? Hope not.
If I am, I am sure I will find out shortly.

Sounds to me like TU just volunteered to host a KD mini Appleseed. >:D >:D >:D
We'll get these differences looked at and ironed out.
Next weekend I am bringing a few students out to Abrams rifle range for an" unofficial match" Will Lilly follow through with some .50 BMG rifle shooting to cap the day. Anyone else interested in getting something going for half a Saturday?
And if a shoot boss comes to help run it, and they happen to have an extra orange hat with them.......well that would be nice! ^:)^
Shooterer Thanks for the sight advice....It seems to me that the healthy debate/discussion that's been going on could be settled on the range with a unconventional shoot and scoring....winner gets all the bragging rites being if it's a 22 or $3000 gun

No problem at all. I will say this...............I think it's harder(yes I said harder)to qualify rifle with a 10-22 at a match than an AR type. They are too light to hold steady, and just don't seem to shoot like CF rifles. On the flip side, I think it's great that they allow and encourage their use. If not, the younger shooters, would not be able to even shoot in many situations. Getting them started young is the key to our sport's survival in the future. And with the cost of ammo these day's, it keep it withing almost everyones budget to participate.
And just in case anyone was wondering.........................I am using a home built M4 carbine, stock trigger, 14.5 inch barrel, and red dot scope for the last Appleseed I shot.I forgot the sling at home, so did not have that on for the shoot either.220, 217, and a 211 were my first 3 scores of the day, and in that order. Applied the fundamentals, watched you breathing, and follow through after the shot. All the things they taught us at the shoot came in to play..............AND WORK!!:)
In the end, we are all in the same group, and I apologize if my previous statements were a bit.............abrasive. It is not my intent to jade this community with any kind of flame starting. I have way to much respect for this organization and what it stands for to do anything like that :) ;)
Good job in those last few lines, Bronk!
Getting a Rifleman patch is an event. Being a Rifleman is a process. So a Rifleman is a Rifleman regardless of the caliber of weapon because ultimately it's a matter of heart and mind rather than lead and brass.
There are many Appleseed virtues. Many. Successfully shooting with the large calibers is one of them. But there is one Appleseed virtue that tends to trump them all and that is our united focus on the future. We are the folks who bring the past into the present in order to create a more perfect future. That's the "front sight" in our work that must always remain in focus.
So we don't diss any other shooting disciplines because we share the same future. And in the near term we need access to the ranges they own. This is particularly the case with folks who own the longer ranges and shoot in disciplines such as high power.
And we never, ever suggest that those who shoot in .22LR are somehow less. Many of these folks are women and children. Children are The Future. 'Nuff said on that one. As for the women who work in .22 LR, a wise man once pointed out that the hand that rocks the cradle is quite capable of changing all your future plans without waking up the sleeping baby. 'Nuff said on that one.
Finally, there is the immediate issue of the economy and the cost of bullets in the larger calibers. We do NOT want to make a man chose between his family and his shooting because the only right answer to that dilemma will not contribute to the future we're working toward. If you look around long enough, you will see that there are preliminary plans and discussions for Appleseed in air rifle. And if, God forbid, there were to be a major hiccup in the gun control laws, I fully expect we'd do precisely the same thing with bows and slingshots.
So it's not a matter of caliber, shooting disciplines, clothes, or much of anything else except the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans. And what we do is precisely whatever it takes. Welcome aboard.
Mogs
Bronk,
Which weekend, this weekend, or next weekend? I can round up a few as well. While I am not a Shoot Boss, but I can call the line, etc.
Next weekend. This weekend is the opener of fishing, and well.............ITS FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Sure saving the country can wait one more week....... ;)

OK, I'm in... :)
We could use the Seed's course of fire;
Match ~ 40 shots (10 slow prone, 10 slow standing, 10 rapid sitting and 10 rapid prone).
Distances ~ Rimfires at 50 meters, centerfires at 200 meters
Targets ~ 2 MOA bull's-eye targets for each distance.
Sights ~ Iron sights only
Prizes ~ Winner gets lunch with a beverage, second gets lunch, third receives a beverage. Losers split paying for the winners prizes.
We could do something this fall after most of the shoots are done

How about 930ish am at the abrams rifle range, set-up, shoot by 10 sound to everyone? I have an order of some AQT's coming so I could bring a few of them with. Go for 2-3 hours???? Afterwards, pull out some handgun's, and as stated earlier.......I will have my .50 BMG rifle there as well for demonstration. As you all know, .50 is a bit pricey, so tips are appreciated if you decide to send some rounds downrange for yourself! >:D >:D >:D
Anyone looking to show what Appleseeders can do, there is a Service Rifle Clinic which includes a 80 round 100 yard match (CMP legal AR15 or AR10, M1A, M1 Garand, 1903, 1917) at Suamico tomorrow morning. It is only $20 to shoot.

I am busily modifying the Ruger 10/22s we used in our first Appleseed so they are good LTRs for us to train with and use in our next Appleseed here in La Crosse.
I recently attended the Appleseed in Niagara WI, with two of my daughters. This was the first Appleseed that we had attended. At first my daughters were a little uncertain about attending, but after arriving and seeing other kids they felt more comfortable. We received help and encouragement from the instructors Martin and Dragonfly, which made it enjoyable and enabled us to improve thoughout the day. The entire program was very informative, from learning about the revolutionary war to gun safety and shooting techniques. Thank you very much to Andy for the use of his range. It was a very fun weekend and I recommend attending an Appleseed to everyone.
This is my first time on the forum. I have been to 3 Appleseed shoot over the last 3 or 4 years. The last one was in Hubertus in August of this year with my wife. I am planning on going to the one in Hubertus again in August again. Have not made rifleman yet but hope to change that in August.

Hey everyone, do we have any shooters, IIT's, or Red hats near Hayward/Minong? I stopped on my way home from Duluth to a little town called Gordon, they have a nice 300 yard range(which I procedded to make the steel targets sing ^:)^ ;D ) I am working on finding contact info for them, seems to be a public range, but a boot on the ground would be helpful. PM me if you are in the area and can help out getting a shoot going there.
Also do we have any shooters or IIT's in the eau claire area? Could use a hand with promotions from time to time.

Greetings, all!
I'm a Minnesconsinite: live in MN, work in WI and throw javelins toward IA.
My apple orchard is a potential DAR, which is interesting since I am qualified to join the D.A.R. x 2 (Obadiah Cooper and Francis Marion).
Someday, I might even earn a patch (stuck at 208 :wb:). In the meantime, I'm accumulating casing burns at an alarming rate, another 8 just this last weekend (thanks, Mr Levin, new Rifleman and orange hat!!) O0.

Hey all, I'm checking in from the Milwaukee area.
I'm interested in attending the upcoming practice in Racine this Feb.
A couple questions though:
Is eventbrite.com the preferred way to register?
Who is a contact person for the event?
At the fore-end of my rifle, should the sling be mounted on the bottom or the side of the stock, or does it not matter? (I have a 10/22)
Is the sling from an M1 carbine ok until I get a USGI web sling?
Where should I post rifle questions (like the previous two questions) in the forum in the future?
Thanks
Hello Theokestral and welcome.
JoeZ here and I am also in the Milwaukee area.
Eventbrite is the preferred way to register (hence it's less expensive) but walk-on is acceptable, especially for those last minute friends you bring. The mail in method works also but your on the net I see.
I most probably will be at the event so go ahead and send any questions my way. Use the private message option, call me, or e-mail (from my profile) are all fine. 414-750-1589
Mount your sling on the bottom of the stock.
The carbine sling is like almost all slings...that is, not a sling at all but rather a carry strap. I always bring extra slings with me or send me or if we talk before the shoot I can send you one. Green or black for $10. Otherwise the Appleseed store or gunpartscorp.com has them. With that said, any sling is better than none so use it if you must.
The road to Rifleman section has the rifle knowledge bank http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=53.0 or the Appleseed Lobby has a child board with helpful rifle tips http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=255.0.

I just had one of Mr Cowan's upgraded 10/22's delivered to my daughter on the west coast... too early to tell what she will think of it after she's sent a significant number of rounds downrange with it. Douglas's customer service has been so good that I'm seriously thinking of picking up a second loaner from him, rather than wading patiently through the ebb and flow of used 10/22's in local stores...
Just my .02FRN, YMMV.

Hello Wisconsin,
Checking in from Muskego (south west of Milwaukee). I plan on attending the Lodi event in April with at least 4 of my shooting buddies. My first event was in Osage Beach, MO last summer. I learned a lot and scored a 200 with flip up battle sights on my short stroking piston AR (now fixed :wb:). I am excited to get better and maybe even shoot it with my newly acquired M1A . I have made a LTR for my wife, and am trying to get her out with us! cant wait to get on the firing line!
Welcome Triggernick!
I too will be at Lodi, I have a few people to get signed up too! Looking forward to meeting you and getting your friends on the line.
PM me if you have any questions about the shoot.

Great to have you on board, and have you bringing friends to the line! Tell your wife that Appleseed is VERY female friendly, and undoubtedly the best place in America for a woman to learn to be safe with a rifle and learn to use it well!
Welcome and make yourselves at home here...

Yes. that is me Blue. Congratulations on you hat. LaCrosse is real nice. As they once said 'I should like to live there'
April LaX is out of the question, I would rather be at Appleseed but certification required for employment.
Gotta better that 203 score. I do believe a real sling would have made the difference, but then I would not have learned the lesson so well. Yes, more in order (end of summer if budget allows).
Thanks for the feedback Cooper. It would seem the Cowan LTR is a good if not the best option as I would currently struggle with some of those mods. I was in contact with Mr. Cowan over these last few days and he is working up some magic with items available later this week. I am very interested, although not excited about plastic parts. That said, I'm seeing used 10/22 (pre-2009 metal triggers) at new prices. Can't justify the NIB carbines for $200 when 4-6 hrs away. I would be time ahead to go with Cowan LTR.

Thanks! Well, if you would like to come to La Crosse again outside of April, we have a shoot on June 25 and 26. Otherwise, if you feel the urge to border hop like I do, come to Winona, MN on the border for the May 7-8 shoot or September 3-4. Thanks for picking up a pail and bailing!
David here, checking in from Westby, WI. My son Christopher shot his first Appleseed event at summer camp this year and shot Rifleman right out of the box, so call me a proud dad. He did it with a scope, though, so now the challenge is on to do the same with iron sights.
We shot together this past weekend in La Crosse, so that was my first Appleseed event. Outstanding instruction! We were only able to attend the Saturday course (wishing that the Sunday event started a little later in the morning, to accommodate those who wish to go to church.) But even just the Saturday course was great.
I was unhappy with my actual shooting. My rifle threw an extractor early in the game and so I borrowed one and had loads of trouble with its sights. (And I might have been part of the problem too, you never know..... ;)) But hey, the bottom line is that I learned and came home with a boatload of fresh information, inspiration and motivation to practice and do better next time.
I was greatly in need of a refresher course on basic marksmanship, since my own Army training is a couple of decades in the past and I haven't shot a lot since then. My son hasn't shown much interest in shooting.....until now. It's a great father/son activity. We now have two LTRs with Techsights and set up our own range on which to practice. Looking forward to the next event in 2012 and we'll definitely be bringing some friends.
Thanks for coming David! Glad you guys had fun!

Attended my first Appleseed in Lodi with my 11 year old daughter and 9 year old son. My expectations before attending were enormously surpassed by the level of safety and professionalism displayed by the instructors. Instructors were excellent with the kids and effective with demonstrations and answering ANY questions. I have been off the shooting range for over two-decades and this event has rekindled my interest in both shooting and revolutionary war history. Excellent message about the origin of our great nation and sacrifices made by the founding fathers. Driving away from the event the first words out of my children's' mouths were "how soon can we do this again?" I will be spreading the word about the Appleseed Project and recruit my family and friends to attend future events. GREAT JOB!

The Min-ne-SO-ta cadre is not as exclusive/selective with regard to state of origin, we judge folks by their commitment to the Appleseed Mission! Myself, I'm a Minnisconsiowan, and work another half-dozen states as well... Appleseed is committed to saving our Nation, not our states, and you will be warmly and eagerly greeted at any MN event! Family medical issues may keep me away from Hinckley next month, but rest assured that you will be most warmly welcomed and appreciated if you come over to help your sister state!

In my official capacity as Minnesota SC, you are welcome. In my non-official capacity, you are also welcome.
We plan on taking another whack at Duluth next year, and we'd like to open up more shoots in the NE corner of MN.

I thank you for your welcoming words. I don't really distrust Min-ne-SO-tans, I just have to pretend to in my job. I also have to love them. Much like the barge operator in Josey Wales. Singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie with equal enthusiasm ;)
I was going to take time from work to make Duluth this year and bring a few new recruits but something made the timing all wrong. Depending on the weekend in 2012 I could probably make it to help out and try the recruits again.
Do I need to bring a "hot dish"? ::)
It's pronounced:
Meeeeeenaaaaaaaahsooooooootaaaaahhhh
re: "hot dish" I can honestly say I've never eaten it. I suppose it's one of those foods that can be passed hand-to-hand, as sort of a ritual offering, like fruitcake. In the southeastern part of the state, we've perfected the art of the free hotdog to welcome our guests.

Lutefisk has special exepemtions in Wisconsin law to exclude it as toxic waste! That is how you know a food is bad! Wis. Statutes 101.58(2)(j)2
Fish....Jello How does that even happen? I have a whole new appreciation for the hardships you face.

Just attended my first appleseed in Racine. Had a great time and learned a ton. bargain at 70 bucks. Thanks again to the volunteer instructors, could never do it without you guys. Didn't even feel the cold.
One thing, I had spoken to some of the instructors including TriggerNick about becoming a member at the Racine range but forgot to leave my # to be forwarded to Rich to inquire about a sponsorship.
Could someone help put me in touch with Rich somehow? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome!
Just got home from the Shawano shoot this weekend, my father -in-law, wife and I had a great time(all a little sore tho). Can't wait to do it again!
I'm a Wisconsin native but, unfortunately, work has taken me away from my roots for far too long. Plan to live in the Northwoods (northern Price county) again in the next year or so. Attended my first Appleseed event recently and I am so impressed and enjoyed it so much I plan to be more involved in the future so wanted to introduce myself. Plan to start my involvement here in Illinois (before you boo i have to say Appleseed is very much alive and well in IL with a lot of dedicated people involved) so hopefully will be IIT by the time moving back home.
Anyway, just wanted say Hi to all in WI and looking forward attending Appleseed in my home state!
Welcome to the forum snidely196, we'll see you on the trail

New Member checking in.
Went to my first Appleseed in Racine on July 28-29, 2012. Very hot but very impressed. Had lots of fun as did my nephew Nolan. We're going to try to make more.
I like to shoot various shooting formats. I shoot on the .22 and center fire pistol leagues at the Stoughton Conservation Club. I shoot CMP and HighPower rifle at the Beloit Rifle Club. I shot the First Annual EOD Wounded Warrior Shoot at the Deerfield range (July 21-22) which was a 3-gun event. (My first time shooting trap)
I'm always looking for a shooting event or gun show.

Hi, I am Tony. I have been shooting for many years. I was born and raised in a shooting family.
I have been trained/instructed to shoot from, Dad, grandpa, numerous uncles, Boy Scouts, military, NRA and more skilled shooters than I can count...oh and of course, Project Appleseed!
I shot my first Appleseed June 2,3 at Dunn Co range in Colfax, WI.
I am also an NRA certified instructor and believe Project Appleseed is an outstanding program!
I live in Eau Claire and choose to shoot in Colfax with the Colfax Sportsmens Club.
Welcome eccarryguy to the forum! I hope you are able to make it to another Appleseed! Colfax has another Appleseed this weekend too. ;D

Well, this weekend, I experienced the most humbling thing that has ever happened to me with a gun in my hand. What was it, you ask? It was my first Appleseed, and already I am planning my next. It's official, I am hooked. I showed up early on a cool October morning expecting to get some pointers on how to improve my shooting skills, only to find out that I had no skills to improve! Now in most cases this would be a bad thing but I really came with an open mind and a teachable attitude, and I left with the desire to come back as soon as possible. The staff of volunteers from "Red Hats" to "Orange Hats" were all helpful, skillful and they seem to want me to succeed as bad as I wanted to succeed. That was cool to see, they really do strive to create "riflemen" from "cooks". The coveted "Rifleman" patch eluded me, but when I saw the 12 year old kid 4 mats down from me get one, I knew I had to have one. To top off the weekend, Saturday evening, after talking with the wife, my 6 year old son gets on the phone to tell me about his Cub Scout outing that day. He began the conversation with "Dad, I hit the target all 12 shots with the BB gun today!! Mom says I shot better than you"!!........ah yes.....just what Dad needs to hear after shooting sub 100 rounds on the AQTs at Lodi.
I cannot wait until the next Appleseed that I can get to. That patch will be mine, my cooking sucks. Until next time, my most sincere THANK YOU to "dragonfly", "ahshoot", "trisha", "infidel", and the others at Lodi this weekend. I had a blast!!
My second Appleseed at Lodi this weekend was another new experience. Unlike the Racine Appleseed in July, this one was much colder. I shot Rifleman at Racine but this time I did it with a bolt-action. That was one of my goals for this shoot. The other was to see my nephew shoot Rifleman. He did it. I'm sure his Dad would have liked to have been there.
It was great to see the big crowd at Lodi. The Racine shoot only had about 14 shooters. Lodi was double that. It's a lot more fun with a lot of people there.
My next goal, Rifleman with a center-fire. AR-15 or M1 Garand?
Thanks to all the Volunteers. I'll be looking to put another Lodi shoot on my calendar.
Welcome Smooth!! It was great meeting you in Lodi this past weekend and I hope to see you again at another Appleseed!
MC2AF it was great seeing you and your nephew again!
Here is the link to the Lodi After Action Report, we would love to hear from you on there as well!! ;D http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=32256.0
Howdy Yawl,
Sorry I didn't get here sooner. Shot my first Appleseed in Gordon last month and just signed up myself and a son for the Spooner shoot. Really looking forward to working with Taylor who is a fine example of what being a true patriot is really about. It was Taylor, Crash and Boscohurn that drove me to the Rifleman Patch by their encouragement and determination. Luck is what happens when preparedness meets opportunity, and they were both in Gordon that weekend............. I'm looking forward to meeting more Patriots shortly.

Hi,
I've been attending Appleseed's for over a year now and have decided to join the forum. I enjoy the marksmanship and the history! I make it to the Daniel Boone Range quite a bit, but have recently been going to new locations to do more 2 day shoots.

Howdy Yawl.
I'm trying to get mentally prepared to do my first shoot ever as an Orange Hat, 000-1 in Mason WI. Taylor is the Shoot Boss. I don't think I could have picked a better mentor. I am scared of screwing up. I've goofed off most of the winter sitting around in my basement getting my reloading bench/area squared away, reloading stuff, going to township board meetings as a general concerned citizen, gun club meetings and doing general honey do's around the house. I've come to the realization now that upon stepping up, I should have been studying the 160+ pages of the AS Instructor's manual. Oh boy, am I in deep do-do now. I'll be in the hole crammin' the rest of this week and all of next for the shoot on the 20th. Ya know, the funny thing about it all is that I don't think I'm the first scallywag to experience these butterflies. I think courage is the ability not to overcome fear, but to just push thru it and do what needs to be done. If not now, when? If not me, who? God bless you patriots current and past. Can I measure up? I am going to give it my damndest. See yawl on the other side..........

Hello,
I'm a new member to Appleseed. I live in Pewaukee WI.
I attended my first Appleseed shoot yesterday in Hubertus.
Trisha was our Range Boss, TriggerNick was one of our instructors. I had a AMAZING day!
Their instruction was top notch. I have shot before, there were others in the group that appeared to be fairly new to the shooting sports, and I applaude them. We enjoyed hearing the three strikes stories, as well as brushing up on our Nation's history, and Heritige. We followed their instructions, and learned not only firearm safety, but how to shoot the right way. The weather was perfect for a great day of learning, and enjoying our second amendment rights. I want to Thank you Trisha, and the other instructor's for a wonderful experiance, and for your dedication to a great cause.
A very heart felt "Thank You" to all of you for your hard work.
We will meet again!
Howard.
P.S. RWVA welcomed a new orange hat yesterday.... Deacon's son. We named him Rainbow Sherbet....(you have to see the pic's!! lol )

Welcome to the Appleseed forums Cosine. I am part of the S. WI Appleseed cadre. We are having 3 more Appleseed events in Racine. The first is on September 07-08, the next is October 12-13, and the last for the year will be December 07-08. If you can make it We'd love to see you and your wife September 07-08. The weather is supposed to be great (so far). If not, September, then October. December is pretty cold, so come before then.

I'm an FFL and gunsmith out of Watertown and belong to the Juneau rod and gun club. I'm primarily a CMP/NRA shooter and came to my first Appleseed in January at Huburtus. Shot rifleman first time with an old Mossberg 44us I built from one of the CMPs "bad barreled receivers" I picked up for $25, even though I only loaded 9 rounds for the standing phase.... Math isn't my strong point, ok? I'm going to be at the Racine one this weekend with two new shooters and plan on leaving with an orange hat and another rifleman score!
Thanks for stopping by the forums, and picking up your Orange hat!!! Hope to see you around often!
New member here. Did my first appleseed (1 day) in Hubertus this Saturday. The instructors were top notch, I am really glad I went. I should have gone years ago. I believe I will go to many more, and bring friends. Didn't make rifleman but I will try till I die if I have to. I don't think it will be a huge problem with the excellent teaching of the instructors. I think I'm hooked!

This is the place to let everyone know that you are from the great state of Wisconsin. We here would love to know that you are a Wisconsinite who loves to shoot and cares about American heritage. This will help the state coordinators, fepowered and Old Glory! know who you are.
*Please post an introduction about yourself, which part of the state you are in or range you are near to.
*Feel free to PM fepowered, Old Glory! or colycat if you have any questions.
Greetings:
Parker here (Clark County). Shot my first Appleseed on 19 Apr 14 at River Falls. My motivation for going was to take a young man I have been coaching who is about to start shooting NRA Small bore events in conjunction with High School Rodeo. I wanted him to attend an event and experience the "competitive" atmosphere of an organized shoot with formal range commands..
Boy did I get my moneys worth! It was nothing short of outstanding.. I also shot the event managing to pick up my Rifleman patch, (not bad for an old guy with cataracts). I have not shot a course of fire like that since, well the 70's. We both had a great time and it was very informative as well a just plain fun..
On our way home I asked Mason if he would like to attend another event and his reply was an unqualified "YES"!. My thanks to the Instructor Cadre for such an enjoyable event.
Parker
PS. I see on the schedule there is a "coming soon" event in Withee, WI. If that happens and gets closer please let me know I'd sure be willing to help out if I"m available..
Glad to see you come out!
Thanks Ninja Piper.. It brought back memories of my .mil days and being on the line at the range. Only thing missing was the fox hole :) Great time and well run range.. O0
Welcome to the forums ParkerJR,
glad to see ya still got it!! hope to see you around with some more friends! we could always use more volunteers too!! &)
Thanks TriggerNick appreciate it..:) O0
Hello, this is my first post but I participated in my first event in Racine on July 28-29, 2012. At the time I never got my proof of training to get an M1 Garand from the CMP, but now I would like to send in for one. Can I still get this? I did shoot a rifleman score that Sunday. I would like to shoot another event this summer, hopefully I can make this work out. I did learn a lot and had a lot of fun.
Russ
Greetings Browning and welcome to the boards here.
Here is a link to the shoot After Action Report you referenced in your post. Perhaps you could Private Message Triggernick, as he seems to have been the Shoot Boss, and remind him you were there. If you could point yourself out in the picture or otherwise prove you were there seems something your going to have to do.

New member here from Manitowoc, I recognize some of the names here as instructors from the event on October 3-4, 2015 in Racine. Big thanks to those who helped me earn my first Rifleman.
I'm new to the WI region, having moved here recently from southern Illinois. I'm a member now at the Viking Bow and Gun Club in Valders. Hit me up if anyone is nearby and wants to shoot.
Hello, I am a new member of this forum. I just participated in my first Appleseed at Oregon, WI along with my wife on November 7-8. Had a great time and very much appreciate what Appleseed and the RWVA are about. Excited to be here among Liberty loving people.
Good day,
I am new to the program and will be scheduling my daughter for her first session with the program during the spring 07 time. I myself of course am a long time shooter and am a certified Wisconsin DNR Hunters Education instructor for a bit as well. I have also invested my energy into NRA shooting certifications as well. My daughter really enjoys shooting and this will give me an excuse to spend more time honing her skills.
I am interested in volunteering my time eventually if i can be of service with the program.
I do have some questions with semantics on attending a shoot with my daughter, specifically the River Falls event. Whom would i direct my questions too about event?
Again, greetings and i look forward to our first event.

Hello fellow 'Sconnies!
I just attended the Lodi, WI shoot this past weekend (April 22-23, 2017) and had a great time and net new friends. It was a 2 hour drive for me to get there as I live in the Fox Valley but it was worth it.
I look forward to meeting more of you in the future.

Am I allowed to be in this thread if I'm from Illinois but do most of my shooting (including all Appleseed activities) in Wisconsin?
Yes, my name is indicative of my skill level. I did my first Appleseed at Racine just yesterday, didn't quite make it to Rifleman. Got some great training in though.

You are welcome in Wisconsin! Glad you made it to an appleseed and I hope you are able to attend another one soon.
I'm checking in from the Twin Cities, but I'm from La Crosse so I should be alright. I did a couple matches in Chaseburg last year, and I am hoping to do some shooting in River Falls if things are normal by then.

First post after my first Appleseed in Menomonie. Big thanks to all three instructors this weekend it was a great experience. Learned a ton and even came away with my rifleman patch! Can't wait to do it again!
