Rimfire 200YD Known Distance

Join us for Advanced Rimfire 200YD Known Distance

A Rimfire Known Distance class is a challenging course of fire at Project Appleseed, applying all the fundamentals that are learned in our classic 25M Rifle Marksmanship Clinic.

This fun and challenging class is for rimfire-only rifles. During this intermediate-level class, students focus on the skills required to effectively hit targets up to 200 yards using a .22LR. This class covers topics of the Three Challenges of a Rifleman:

  • Target Detection
  • Range Estimation
  • Making the Shot, including applied trajectory, battlesight zero, and managing environmental factors.
  • You will also learn how to get the most out of their own sight systems (MOA or mils) and much more.

Prerequisite: Attendance at a 25m Project Appleseed clinic. Marksmanship fundamentals such as position, NPOA, and firing the shot are not covered in detail at a RKD event.

"Do not fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here." – Captain John Parker

Ready your equipment

  1. A rifleman needs to be prepared to shoot in any conditions, such as blowing sand and dust, rain, and mud. In event of blowing sand and dust, you’ll need to degrease your rifle. Any lube should be a dry lube, like graphite. Be ready to protect your rifle with a plastic rifle bag or a simple waterproof wrap for the action.
  2. Protect ammo and mags from the same weather. Ziplock bags are great for this.
  3. Function-test your rifle and, if possible, have it zeroed for 25 meters.
  4. Practice by getting down into the prone position and dry-firing ten shots “by the numbers.”
  5. It is suggested to put a GI web sling on your rifle, and get it adjusted so it supports the rifle in prone.
  6. Practicing at home is a GREAT way to prep for arriving at the range to make your range time FAR more productive.

Special Equipment Considerations:

  1. Due to a firearms safety bulletin, .17HMR semi-automatic rifles are not recommended.
  2. We are pleased to announce that Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 firearms may be used at Project Appleseed clinics. However, owners must comply with the Smith & Wesson Safety Alert. We will make every effort to have a S&W Bolt Inspection Gauge on-hand for owners to check their bolts for compliance. You are encouraged to check the following links to the Smith & Wesson websites for information about the issues and how to check the M&P 15-22 bolt to determine that it is within specification:
    https://www.smith-wesson.com/mp15-22-consumer-safety-alert
  3. An additional Liability Waiver will also need to be signed by any student at a Project Appleseed clinic who chooses to use a semi-automatic .17HMR rifle or a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 firearm.

Loaner Equipment

At many locations, loaner firearms may be available. To request loaner equipment, send an email with your name and event date/city/state to loaners@appleseedinfo.org. Do not wait until the last minute to ask. Loaners are limited and provided on a first come/first served basis. You will be required to provide your own ammunition.
