Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare for an event?

There are downloadable quick guides here that will help you prepare for your Project Appleseed event.

Contact us at and include your city and state. With almost a thousand volunteers across the country, we can help you with planning and details. However, we will also need help close to you to get the ball rolling in your area.

All our programs are family-friendly and affordable. Check our Pricing page to find the cost of individual events.

Each student will need their own rifle at the event. If your group is short a rifle, we may be able to loan one. To request loaner equipment, contact us here with your name and the city/state and date of the event you wish to attend.

Responsible youth are welcome at Project Appleseed events.  If your child is can safely handle a rifle and complete a full day of instruction, bring them! Visit our Parents page for more information.

Be aware that some states require a child to be a certain age to handle a rifle. Other restrictions may apply.

We have an increasing number of female participants and instructors. Women are always welcome to join any of our events. However, we do have Ladyseed events that are for women only.

Each participant must have their own rifle. Project Appleseed welcomes safe rifles in calibers up to 8mm. Some host ranges may have limitations which can be found on the event page.

We welcome both semi-automatic and bolt action rifles. We welcome traditional iron sights and scopes. Most red dot sights are generally not recommended for our course.

Loaner rifles may be available. Contact us with your name and the city, state and date of the event you wish to attend to confirm availability.

The type of sights you choose is completely up to you. We welcome iron sights and optics.

Our 25M events are not caliber specific, but some locations only allow .22 rimfire ammunition. Centerfire calibers up to 8mm are welcome if the range supports it. Please see the registration page for each location for more information.

Some shooters choose to use quality .22LR ammo, as it presents a good value.

Every event is unique and the actual number of rounds depends on a number of different variables like the number of shooters, weather, etc. Downloadable guides for each event are available here to help you prepare.

To get the most out of your rifle class, you will need a sling.  We recommend the USGI web sling, as it’s inexpensive and easy to use. Much of our instruction centers around using the USGI sling for stability. You can purchase one on the Project Appleseed store or other online retailer.

We do not rent firearms or sell ammunition. However, loaner equipment may be available at your event, on a first-come, first-serve basis, depending on local laws. Loaner firearms are the personal property of Project Appleseed volunteers. If and when made available by Appleseed instructors/volunteers, loaner firearms are loaned gratuitously. No part of the class fee is allocated to providing loaner firearms.

Pistols have additional restrictions for loaners.

If you find yourself in need of loaner equipment, please email loaners@appleseedinfo.org with your name and the date/city/state of the event you wish to attend. We will try to coordinate equipment that you may borrow for the event.

Yes. You can request a form from the Shoot Boss for your event to use as a qualifying event for the CMP program and a requirement to purchase an M1 Garand or 1903 A3 rifle.

Project Appleseed is a non-profit organization that’s run 100% by volunteers. We are always looking for more instructors, event coordinators, and support staff, as well as monetary support. The best way to support Project Appleseed is to join the RWVA or to donate.
