Is there a term for a local Appleseed group?

I'm not very familiar with the structure of the overall Appleseed organization, and I am wondering if there is a term used when referring to a local Appleseed group. For example, is it a "chapter" or a "unit" or something similar?

Mostly what I see when posts are about a specific event is it is referred to by the city or the range where the event happened, and it's not referred to by a single name that stands in for the shoot boss, instructors, instructors in training, etc. who are the consistent group of people putting on Appleseed events in the area. Do we have a term for that kind of group of people? And if there is a term for that kind of group, do the groups have names?

Thanks!

Thanks! I thought that was pretty much how it worked, but I wanted to check.

My reason for asking is that I'm considering joining as a volunteer -- blue or possibly orange hat -- and I was wondering how I refer to the local group that I might become a part of when talking about it to other people. I'm going to go with "crew", and if anyone needs further clarification, I'm going to say, "We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune..." And when it's my turn to be the executive officer, I'm going to change it to "chapter", assuming I can rally enough support to get my proposal ratified at the special bi-weekly meeting.

Nightpoison

Up here in NH we refer to the crew as crew, cadre, or team. Nothing formal

Pretty sure the state-specific business cards say "team," as in "Contact your California Appleseed Team at CA@appleseedinfo.org"

It's one of a few good choices, as Matt said.

But when it's your turn in the hot seat as XO, you know, you do you.   ^-^

I generally use cadre for the "state wide" reference, but at least in my head when there is a group of Appleseeders tied to a specific range, id refer to them as the [insert range here] crew.

Will do. I plan to talk to the local shoot boss after the first of the year about possible roles. The main thing I'm interested in tackling is helping the team form a pipeline that keeps the interest of 25m event Riflemen so that they want to sign up for a 200yd RKD and eventually 400yd KD events. And one of the reasons for that is that I want to attend those events as a student as well! The shoot boss has said that if there is enough interest, the team will set up these events, but past events haven't seen enough interest. I think I have a few ideas for how to build the interest and to communicate and promote the opportunity to the shooters who would be likely to sign up. I'm more interested in that kind of thing than in running a shoot.

We could take inspiration from the animal world...

  • A group of pugs is called a "grumble" and many of us grumble.
  • A group of penguins is called a "waddle", and well..., that describes how many of us walk.
  • A group of hippopotamuses is called a "bloat" which may accurately describe many of us.
  • A group of hedgehogs is called a "prickle" and I just like the sound of that.
  • A group of pandas is called an "embarrassment", and a number of us are shaped like pandas.

Let's see.
A group of cats is a "Kindle."
 Wolf, "Pack."
Ravens, "Conspiracy."
A group of teenage boys, "Single brain cell."

I hereby decree that a local Appleseed cadre will be called an "Apple-knocker." (There is historical slang etymology to back this term up 😁)

I think if I were a member of a bloat or a waddle, I would grumble about the embarrassment. I'd rather be in a prickle.

We're a hormono-impulsivist commune sharing a single brain cell.

We take it in turns to act as the designated brain cell operator for the week. But all decisions of that brain cell can be overturned a simple peer-pressure majority in the case of purely dangerous affairs, or by a one-idiot legislative hold in the case of impressing girls.
