I am so thankful for the 20 patriots that signed up as students at the first 25M rifle clinic at the Military and Police Bay at Arnold Air Force Base.  It was really great to have so many families there...one of which traveled all the way from Ohio.

Saturday started off with history and safety, then on to the first "Hits Count" target...which 3 folks cleared and 6 hit the shingle.  The rest of the day was filled with instruction, drills, and amazing history.  By the end of the day we had minted a new Rifleman-Colt H. with a 213 (first event) and had 4 requalifications (Don B.-242 Distinguished, Kendall B.-211, Noelle T.-223, and Steve T.-227). We also had several folks "knocking on the door".  The day ended with 4 folks clearing the "Hits Count" target and 9 hitting the shingle.  EVERYONE improved their marksmanship.  Huzzah!

Sunday started out well.  It seemed as if the instruction the day before had sunk in overnight and had 4 folks clear the Hits Count target and 8 hit the shingle. They had great targets all day.  Additionally, the students heard some Dangerous Old Men Stories they don't normally hear. Also, we introduced a new target to TN...Parker's Revenge.  The four teams really enjoyed the exercise and I plan to do this exercise a lot. Before the day ended, we had minted 2 new Riflemen (Justin C.-214, 228, 229, Hunter H. with a 217...both were first time Appleseeders). We also had 7 Requalifications (Don B.-246 Distinguished, Bren B.-235, Kendall B.-217, 227, 230, Aynsley B.-211, 217, 215, Colt H.-225, Steve T.-225, and Steve Z.-240 Distinguished, 226, 242 Distinguished).  If you didn't notice a pattern, one family of requalified ON THE SAME DAY!  Huzzah! I have been waiting on that picture for a while.  The afternoon "Hits Count" target scores were very similar to the morning's (4 cleared it and 8 hit the shingle).

I want to thank each one of you for your perseverance and for bringing a "teachable attitude". I saw A LOT of improvement over the weekend.  Please continue to practice the skills we taught you and I hope to see you at another event soon! I also want to thank the great volunteers that I got the pleasure of working with for the weekend.  Your sacrifices are noted. I couldn't have done it without you!

Post pictures if you have them!

In giving us dominion over the animal kingdom, God has signified His will that we subdue the beast within ourselves.
John Lancaster Spalding

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Benjamin Franklin, 1775

"A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well-digested plan is requisite; and their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories as tend to render them independent of others for essential, particularly military, supplies."  George Washington 1790

"[T]o preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them…"

I was impressed with the instruction and the shooters on Sunday.  It was wonderful to see an entire family prequalify together on Sunday.  I hope we have many more events on the Arnold Airforce Base pistol range!

My father didn't serve in WWII.  It wasn't for lack of trying.  He attempted to enlist 3 separate times.  The last time the doctor said he was too short.  He responded that he signed up again because he said he saw a poster that was recruiting short men to be pilots.  The doctor said, "Short, yes.  But this is ridiculous."  In my book, he's still a hero.

Smyrna air base has an awesome range to, did my NRA pistol instructor there years ago.  Those are a great bunch of guys, shot with them down at weather top.
