On behalf of our Chief Master Instructor, DonD...

Close your eyes and picture:  Captain John Parker and his men lying silently in wait.  Every man focused on his front sight and trapped with his own thoughts.  A few of the men pushing past the discomfort of bloody bandages as they wait for the FIRE command.  The suspense building as they hear hushed breathing and the approaching footsteps of British troops.

That was 250 years ago, but you can join them in spirit with the new Parker's Revenge target.  Come shoot it for Patriots' Day!

It's a rare thing for Project Appleseed to roll out a new target.  Though we have the occasional target revision, the last new 25m rifle target was the Standing and Transition target.  It was released in 2016 - nine years ago.

Released for our 20th anniversary, this target is a couple of firsts for us.  It's the first official "fun target" and the first "team target".

These team targets and an accompanying instruction sheet will be included automatically with Patriots' Day shoot boxes.  After April, SB's can order them with routine resupply.

Here are some closeups...

We hope you have fun with them!

I am anxious to see if the shooters are as excited about this target as we are.  Three Huzzahs to the crew that made this happen.

Can't wait to make them a part of our 25M events. Great job team Appleseed!

That's going to be fun! I've been wondering about this target. The April events are going to be great this year!

Fulcrum

Has anyone seen this at an April event yet? How was it?

ChuckA

Used it in Barnhart MO. It was a lot of fun, and easy to score. It took a little explaining being the first time the instructors had used it, but a great addition!

It allows for practicing skills in a fun way and it was a blast listening to the shooters strategies while it also ties very well into the history. Huzzah!

We got to shoot this target at the Port Malabar 25M Rimfire this weekend. It was a lot of fun and challenging for all levels of shooters due to the way the game was set up.

Eagle Keeper

I shot it last weekend. It's a fun target and the Col. Smith target is small & challenging.

We had fun with it this weekend. I had 12 shooters on day 2, evenly split on our divided range. Angle was too steep for all six on one side to shoot the same target(indoor range) so we did pairs, and added the totals together for each side, left side vs right side.

It was fun! Students enjoyed the change up before going back to drills and AQTs.  Looking forward to shooting it myself someday.

So the team that had two Riflemen won. No surprise. What was a surprise is that they won by only one point.  Strategy counts.

It was a good game.

We used it at our Sacramento, CA event, It was a HIT.  When we talked it over with the instructors before we shot it, they had a bunch of fun working out how to shoot it!!  The students had a blast.  We shot it instead of our hits count on Sunday am.  Got everyone in a great frame of mind.

We shot this in Port Townsend, Washington yesterday. It was a blast to shoot. We did well for the first time running this drill.

There was a bit of confusion about the rules of the target, as the shoot boss put them out on the line without any of the shooters seeing the target first hand, and we thought it was single hit counts.

Thank goodness we were a bit over zealous with confirmation shots, or we would have used less ammo, and gotten less points.

We had a great time shouting at each other across the line and coordinating fire. We had 4 shooters. Split the rounds with 10, 10, 10, 9.

I started with the Colonel, then worked down the officers. Another teammate worked the grenadier and confirmed the hits on the officers then moved down the column on the top row. Our third started from the Grenadier and worked his way towards the rear of the column on the lower row, and in fine ambush fashion, our 4th shooter started from the rear and worked his way up the column.

This was the first time I wish I had magnification on my rifle, my first two shots hit the Colonel, and I moved down the leadership. I couldn't tell the effect I had on the targets until I called out for confirmation of his untimely demise.

All in all, it was a really fun time communicating with a team.

PXL_20250422_035810951.jpg

I think a really fun variation on this would to have, if class size allows it, have 13 shooters on the line. Give a limited time to set up and assign targets, and have all shooters fire in the command. Give everyone 2 rounds and have them fire a second volley. See how well we can communicate and get first hits on target.

Thanks again for a great drill!

Short story:  this target is great and am very happy it will be available going forward.

We divided into 4 teams of 5.  We only received four targets so I showed it, explained it and them I had an instructor post them. Next time I will read the instructions and then give the teams the target as part of their 5 minute prep. Team names were creative and fun.  I tend to divide the line with experienced shooters on the left, youth in the middle, less experienced in the middle to the right, then lefties and ARs on the far right.  This clumps similar level shooters together.  The far left team (previous Appleseeders) dominated this time.  Need to spend the extra time Saturday morning dispersing experience levels. Scores were in the mid to high 20s for 3 teams and then 47/75 for the more experienced

Just a funny thing on this target from this weekend.

We had a smaller shoot and planed to do this game. We only received 3 targets so we improvised a little. The teams would have been uneven due to the number of shooters. I was running the game so I let the youngest shooter (13) pick an instructor to be on her team.  It was no surprise that she picked Dave. David had just turned in a perfect 250 on an AQT so he was a good choice.
The other team was not happy but I offered a handicap that made them very happy. David had to shoot left handed. His team was unhappy, but the other team was very grateful for the handicap.

Fast forward to the scoring and the team with David smoked the other team. His team was confident in him, and he had the most shots to fire. He hit every target even left handed. I think their final score was around 35 to 40.
It just goes to show, he knows very well what he is about with either hand. :)

I've used it twice now, and the shooters love it!  Glad to see that it will be available to request in each Shoot Box from now on.  It will become a staple in my COF.

We ran this on our April 19 weekend.

The winning team was a dad and 3 brothers (all under 18).  The brothers were Trail Life that had been to events before.  Kinda fun seeing them win against full grown men, and a subtle comment was made that they had been to Project Appleseed before  O0

So the April shoots are over.  How do we get this target for future events, like in May?  I didn't see it on the Shoot Box order form.  Thanks, it's a great target and I want to continue using it.

Mike

Catch-10-22

We used this target at 2 of our 3 April events. The 3rd range wouldn't allow a target of this width to be shared (rounds would impact outside the berm) but that was ok.

The first time was at a 200 yard RKD - we didn't have access to a 25 yard range so we had two teams shoot it at 50 yards after doing squares. The winning team scored a 39 out of 75 (including 4 hits on the officers and 1 on Col Smith) which we thought was impressive at 50.

The second time was a full line of Boy Scouts and parents. We had 4 teams (relays) and scores were a bit lower but they loved it.

Thanks for making this fun Target!

Big John

We ran this at Redbrush this past weekend and I believe the students considered it to be the highlight of the event. The ammo allocation and target choosing is far superior to the quasi-official Redcoat Rattle and the target is excellent.

This is an ideal thing for the Sunday afternoon 2pm slump.

The Southern Indiana Cadre was much impressed by the target and the reception given to it by the students.
