Well another fine Appleseed in sunny southern California. We had 18 shooters show on Saturday, with a wide range of rifles. We had two M1A, two SKS, one MAS 49/56, 1 22HK Clone, two bolt 22, and the rest were 10/22. Sunday every one had 10/22 :) Excet for Mike he kept runnig his rather cool looking HK 22 Clone. The shooters persevered through two days of bad suntans  >:D But I have to say the spirit that was in those 18 was quite inspiring. Of the 18, 17 were new to Appleseed and 4 were new to shooting period. They came from all across the state, and the world to take part. I felt quite honored to have meet them. Quite a few were ramming the door trying to get the score but I am sad to say we did not get any riflemen scores. However I could tell by the looks in there eyes, when I told them that they had shot there last AQT of the day. That we shall soon have more riflemen to count among our ranks.

Don't be bashful, Hollywood, tell them the rest of the story.  There were some items presented at the end of the day. O0

This was my first Appleseed and a definite eye-opener for me.  I was shocked at how my skills have degraded without use.  I loved the focus on the basics.  The volunteerism of the instructors was always evident, I was loaned a rifle and a mat over the weekend.  I'm stiff and sore today, got a couple scraped elbows, and one red ear despite all the sunscreen.  And yet I can't wait for the next one.

And there is just something special about listening to a guy with a British accent school you in American history.

I'll be back next month.  Already have a commitment for another attendee.  We'll see if I can't get closer...

Well I was hoping that the video would be up on U-tube first but Sespe gave us a small class and demonstration of the black powder rifle and it use. He fired three rounds as fast as he could at the 100yd Red Coat target in 2min and 15 sec  :~ and scoring one hit and two very close misses. If there was a 30 cal rule for Black Powder he would have had them O0 I have to say it gave me a great deal of respect for those men on April 19,1775 and what they had to work with and the skill it would take to do what they did. I hope that there will be some pics up on the board soon of the shoot. &)

It was an excellent Appleseed in terms of the enjoyment and progress everyone made there, whether fresh 'seeder's or IIT's. As usual the Instructor Corps was really hoping for more Riflemen too, it always makes all the fun we have even better - but it just wasn't in the cards this time. I'm sure it's not just me that would like to be there to see all of them earn a Rifleman patch, but we'll just have to take what comes in due time. O0

I do regret to inform HollywoodMarine that it's difficult for me to conceive of using the VERY unofficial Appleseed Motto of "We're so dedicated that we'll even watch men's butts" in my signature line, so I'll just have to pass for now. **)

(This came up during slow fire prone when I remarked that many of the guys on the line weren't being very observant at the time of shifting their NPOA) ::)

I didn't mean that presentation.  That was ugly.  I meant the new hat(s) given out later.

Oh, and I laughed so hard at the "watch men's butts" line that I dropped a shot or two.  That's my excu story and I'm sticking to it.

Edit:  bought a new 10/22 today, found out my buddy did also.  We should be practiced by April.

Hey guys,

it sounds like you all had a great time, & that's one of the most important things of this program....it is -serious-, but we all still need to be able to have some fun with it.......

Sespe, sounds like you "got it", from your postings......Charcoal burners are not the "smooth operating, low drag, high speed" things so many have been accustomed to operating...it takes a special skill to do that......but a Rifleman persists......and overcomes.....

And I wonder if anybody "notices" -what- sort of Marine HM is? Or where he's from? Could that be it?? ++) **) <:)

Lava, Rome was not built in a day......we'll be seeing you at the IBC....
And I don't want some guys standing around saying they want to see other guys butts wiggling either!! &)

Meanwhile, have fun!!

I just wanted to thank all the instructors for being so helpful this weekend. We will, no doubt, be back. (possibly april 19th.) Even though we aren't "Rifleman Experts", (yet) my wife Tami and I would like to help out wherever we can. Please let us know how we can help (gun shows, shoots, flyers, etc). We live in Ventura, so we're pretty close to Piru, but we could travel if needed. Hat tip to Phil, aka. V, for being so patient with my two boys, Cameron and Hayden. You made a lasting impression on them.

Well to add a quick report from some new seeders. . .

My lady and I came out for both days and flat out had a blast, literally and figurtively.  We came in on day one and both of us couldn't hit a redcoat from 100 yrds out, by the end of the second day we were both gaining some degree of accuracy. She scored the head shot on the last Redcoat and 2/3 at 400 yrds, I ended up shooting a 196 for an AQT. Both of us had no shooting experience AT ALL prior to last weekend, so for us we thought we were doing great. The crew of instructors were bar-none, super helpful, informative, and supportive. Definitely will see us out there again. Just want to thank all the guys again for all their help and guidance.

BTW we have some pics and (i think) some video from the weekend that we will get up soon. Where should we post them for all to see?

I hope to see all of you at a future Appleseed.

After being off the AS trail for 2 months, it sure felt good to be back at Appleseed. We had a wonderful group of folks who toughed it out all weekend (most of them anyway). We had Kevin who came all the way from Eureka,Ca. just to shoot at AS (he didn't know about the Sacto shoot). Now that's rifleman material O0. Not to say that the other shooters were any less rifleman material either. They all had the right stuff. With more persistence they'll be riflemen and women. Hope to see you folks back at another AS  ;). I was good to be working with familiar instructors and great meeting some new ones.

I knew appleseed was going to be awesome...but it was so much cooler then I could have imagined ! Appleseed is exactly what I needed and have been looking for. To think I found it in California. I learned so much. I can only thank you guys, and promise that I will be back with friends...and I will persist until I too am a riflemen. ...absolutely the funnest history class I ever attended! :)

I want to chime and and give kudos to the instructors at the Piru AS; all of you guys were outstanding!  Thanks for all your dedication and the time you devote to teaching.  Your students appreciate it.  I know I do.

It was a great experience, with a great group of people.  I can't wait to come back for another go at the AQT.  I told a friend of mine about Appleseed tonight and I think I'll be bringing him along soon.  O0  Someday, the wife and kids, too.

Hey Everyone,

Stefi and I want to thank everyone for the great Appleseed experience!  We both had a great time and met great people.  I'm planning on going again on May 23-24.  Stefi can't make it since she will be in Slovakia then, but I'm going to be in California then. I am passing the word around and inviting other people.  Anyone else going to attend then?

Kook, Wolverine, and JetSet,

Congratulations on your first Appleseed and getting off the couch.

Welcome to the forum. See you all on the Appleseed trail.

Thanks to Jet Set and his amazing video phone, this is me doing the muzzleloading rifle demonstration on Sunday.  I kind of forgot the part about "smooth equals fast", so please ignore the fumbling.  And my wife tells me I really need to get new shooting glasses...

Hi all:

I finallly got around to reading all the AARs from this shoot.  Looks like I missed a good one!

First off, welcome all you new Appleseeders.  I love seeing all these "newbies" !

I was hoping to see some Rifleman patches, but I know they'll come with this crew.

Very cool video, Sespe.  You looked pretty darn smooth to me.  Nevertheless, I was thinking about them redcoats running in with their bayonets just as you were getting the next ball rammed down!  thanks for bringing that flinter of yours, and demonstrating some of the realities of Revolutionary War riflery.

Hope you all will be out in April.  In the meanwhile, dry fire practice and figure out where you're gonna sew on your rifleman patches!

Looking forward to meetin you all on the trail.

R-C

PS:  Congratulations on your new hats, HM!  Well done, my friend.

Thank You Sespe for posting that link, If you ask me that WAS FAST   :~ for back then. Hope to see you soon with a riflemens patch on that outfit  ;)

At Hollywood's request, here is a scan of the winning target from the Stars competition on Sunday afternoon.

Anyway, I think that there are several that are going to make Rifleman on their 2nd Appleseed.  I'm going to the May 23-24th one at Piru; hope I succeed there!

Hey, I am moving from Eureka to Simi Valley in a few weeks...I will be looking for good people to practice and learn with and a new range to call my own. Do you guys use the Piru range when it is not an appleseed event? I'd like to say I was sure I could make it to appleseed in April, but finding a new job has to be my first priority...maybe the boot camp in june :)

V

Welcome Kook,

When you get down here drop me a line. I live in Simi and shoot at Piru all the time. There is a public range and many other club ranges, 3-gun, SASS, IPSC, IDPA, Steel Challenge, etc in addition to the Appleseed DAR.

Cheers
Phil
