I have to back out for this weekend, I had a bunch of stuff come at that I need to take care of. Let me know if you need to borrow tools (weedeater, fuel, wheelbarrow, range finder, shovels, etc) If you need them, call me on my cell 805-746-2304.

Sorry for having to back out at the last minute.

To all the New Appleseeders, Welcome! Thanks for coming out to Piru and taking the first step on the Rifleman Journey.
As always I wish I had been there.

El Topo- Sorry I missed you, but I knew that you would be in excellent hands with V and crew.
Could you post an After Action Report on the Mental Militia forum?

Sespe- Great video, thanks for posting, you make it look easy!
I understand that the British regulars used paper cartridges and that these speed loading considerably.
Also that they spent many looong hours practicing and drilling to gain skill.
Funny how some thing never change.
Agian, well done.

HollywoodMarine- Congratulations on your Red/Green hat!

Piru is about my favorite place in the world and Appleseeders are my favorite people.

The muskets carried by line troops on both sides used paper cartridges.  The ball was considerably undersize to the bore to facilitate rapid reloads with a dirty barrel.  Black Powder fouls barrels much faster than smokeless.  In the video I'm shooting a rifle, not something line troops carried.  I need a cloth patch between the lead ball and the rifling to impart the stabilizing spin to the ball.

I just got my musket running smooth, now I need an undersize ball mold and I can start rolling some cartridges.  At 25 yards I'll be plenty accurate.

Fun trivia on rifling:  "State of the art" knowledge even up to the start of the Rev War explaining why rifles were so much more accurate than smoothbores:

There are little imps in the air (demons) that jump on the ball and steer it off course.  They get flung off a rifle ball because it is spinning so fast, resulting in the ball flying straight and true.

I want to use this excuse some time at an appleseed.  "I missed 210 because the little imps held on tight..."
I appeal to you again to constantly bear in mind that with you, and not with politicians, not with Presidents, not with office-seekers, but with you, is the question, "Shall the Union and shall the liberties of this country be preserved to the latest generation?"  -Abraham Lincoln
