Rifle Restrictions

Hi.
I see that there is a shoot in Lexington Park next weekend.
If I were to come out to Maryland for an event, are there any restrictions on rifles I should know about?
Mag capacity limits? Semi-auto bans? ARs? Suppressors or other muzzle devices?
Thanks,
Greg

FSA13 does impose some limits - will try to provide a quick summary but can answer specific questions if you have them.

There is no blanket ban on semi-autos, you can bring and shoot mags of any capacity, rimfires of any shape (I.e., AR style) are legal.

Suppressors and flash hiders are legal, with only one exception - if combined with a folding stock and detachable magazine on a post-ban centerfire rifle. There are no ammo restrictions (apart from the range rules).

ARs, AKs, M1As, FALs, and other banned firearms (there is a list) are only legal if owned prior to 2013 or if the AR has a marked or advertised heavy barrel.

Many other MSRs are perfectly legal, like SCARs, piston ARs, AR-10s, Garands, M1 Carbines. There are restrictions around OAL related to bull pups and SBRs. There are also exceptions based on caliber - a 223 AK is legal, a 300 blackout/6.5 grendel AR is legal, etc. AR pistols and SBRs are also legal without the barrel restrictions.

Happy to answer specific firearm questions via PM. As you can tell, it's probably easier that way!

So, it appears that .22LR is good to go, even suppressed. Is that correct?
AR? Um..., no.

Here's the dealio-
I have begun to use Appleseeds as an excuse to travel. So far been to Wisconsin, Ohio, North Dakota, and Ramseur as well as one in my home state of Iowa.
The company I work for has been partially bought out (entered a partnership) and some of us are being shifted over to the new company/partner. I have unused vacation time that is going to disappear on March 7 if I don't use it, so, I think I'll use it. As a result, I've looked around and found events in Laramie, WY, El Paso or Waco, TX, or Lexington Park. Also, there is a rimfire KD down in Ramseur. I have family up by Frederick and a good friend right in DC I could visit if I go to the Maryland one.

Thanks for the intel,
Greg

Sounds like an amazing journey whatever you choose to do. Rimfire KD is one of my favorite events.

Suppressed rimfire is just fine. Last consideration is to have the rifle cased, in your trunk, unloaded. Mags can be loaded, just not the rifle.

Just don't bring ANYTHING into DC to visit your friend - not even one round of ammunition or spent casing.

You know the weather is great here in Florida.  If you just wanted a shooting vacation I am sure there is a range here in FL having a shoot.   And our nickname is "the GunShine" state.   Bring what you want to shoot.

If you where to ask the Shoot Boss, of what ever event, You choose. That you could be helped to find a rifle hotel, or motel, for a small or no expense. for a night or two.

Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.

Well, now I hear the LP event has been cancelled due to only one sign-up, so... things are up in the air.
TomM1Thumb, good ideas. I've had pretty good luck getting things figured out, but have always driven.
Flying might necessitate other methods.

Sorry to hear that. We have been trying to fill that line all year  :wb:

Best of luck.

Looks like I'm going to El Paso.  O0
Probably.
Might still be Laramie, WY.
But probably El Paso.
