Susanna Bolling.  "The Girl Who Won the Revolution" born 5-Dec 1764

Tradition has it that Cornwallis arrived at the Bolling plantation in May 1871. He demanded the Bolling Family quarter and feed his staff. He questioned the women about the missing menfolk and whether they were serving in the militia. He got careless and discussed his plans to capture General Lafayette.  Young 16-year old Suzannah escaped via a tunnel to the Appomattox River. She paddled across the river to a neighboring farm and borrowed a horse. She rode through the night to warn LaFayette. He was able to escape the designs of Cornwallis.  Gen LaFayette, along with his Army, continued to harass Cornwallis and was key in reducing the outlying positions at Yorktown which resulted in Cornwallis's surrender to Washington and brought the war to an end several months later in Yorktown in September - October 1781. Perhaps all because of the effort of this patriot lassie.
