Wow, what a great weekend for an AS event in Idaho Falls, ID.   I would like to thank our gracious range host, Eagle Rock Gun School and Range for fitting us into their tight schedule to be able to run an event at their range.

There were 16 patriotic Americans who came out in the warm July weather for this event.   There was a nice mixture of returning students and first time Appleseed participants.  There were 3 families on the range and almost 50% of the participants were females!   In my opinion, this is the best way for a family to spend their time together.

We had a great display of marksmanship skills this weekend.   Most of the shooters showed great progress through the weekend.   We had a couple students who struggled with their equipment most of the weekend, and this hampered their ability to improve.   The instructors did their best to get their equipment to fit them, but they still struggled with proper sight alignment and eye relief.   They were provided with a lot of suggestions on how to make the necessary changes to their equipment to fit their bodies better.

We had two new rifleman, David and Ben.  Huzzah.   We also had three student re-qualify on their rifleman scores.  Good shooting Mark, Kyle and Waverly.  In addition, both Ben and Waverly were able to earn their Designated Rifleman Patch with scores of 240 and 244.  Ben shot his Designated score at his first Appleseed event, with a brand new rifle.  Waverly actually shot a five back-to-back Designated Rifleman scores with a 241, 241, 241, 244 and 244.  She posted all of these scores with a bolt action rifle.   But, as you can tell, Waverly is a talented young lady who is trying out for the Junior Olympic shooting team.  We will be rooting for you!

Kyle posted a high score of 236, and was hoping to out shoot his friend Ben, but Ben took home the honors this weekend.

We also had two young ladies post scores of 201 and 206.   Their high scores were on the second AQT of the day, and unfortunately their scores went down after that as the afternoon just kept getting hotter and hotter.

For those who did not shoot their Rifleman score, remember that persistence is a characteristic of a rifleman.   I look forward to seeing you at the next AS event and awarding you patches.   Dry fire practice is your friend.   You can do this practice cheaply on the comfort of your living room floor and perfect you trigger control, steady hold factors and NPOA shifts.

We talked about the opportunity to expand your rifleman skills by attending a Known Distance event.   The next KD event for Idaho is scheduled for October 10/11th in Coeur d'Alene.   Hope to see some of you at this event.
