This year we are planning an Appleseed event that falls on Flag Day and Army Day: 14 June.  It was on 14 June 1775 that the Continental Congress passed a resolution raising six companies of "RIFLEMEN", one of which included Daniel Morgan's Virginians.  One year later Congress authorized the US Flag

Here is the Army/Infantry/Rifleman Company resolution

"Resolved, That six companies of expert rifflemen, be immediately raised in Pensylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia; that each company consist of a captain, three lieutenants, four serjeants, four corporals, a drummer or trumpeter, and sixty-eight privates. That each company, as soon as compleated, shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief Officer in that army. "

This is an interesting  paper on the quality and demonstrated ability of marksmanship of the riflemen:

Here is the Resolution on the Flag
"Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

We hope to highlight these historical events on the 14th.
