We had another great Appleseed at the Dillon Sportsman Center near Newark, Ohio this weekend. Thirteen motivated shooters showed up Saturday morning to work on their Marksmanship skills.  Our Well Armed Women shooters were well represented.  We had Tina, Rachel, Deb and Deb's son on the line.

Once all the shooters had arrived, we completed the normal welcome and moved to the safety briefing. Rifles were brought to the line in preparation for the Saturday morning Red Coats. One of our shooters was an Adaptive Appleseeder.  The club provided us with a portable wooden shooting bench consisting of about 8-10 parts.  Watching four of us (club manager, me, and two instructors) trying to figure out how they went together was a riot.   We had parts backwards, upside down and reversed but after several false starts, we finally got it put together.  Before we did anything else, we put some reference numbers on the parts so we won't look this stupid the next time.

The morning Red Coat was then shot and the results showed we had potential. Over half the group was good out to 200 and two joined Daniel Morgan.

We moved to the steady hold factors in prone, followed by the six steps and NPOA instructions.  Related drills were shot and the morning moved on to shooting sighting groups in anticipation of IMC.  We broke for lunch where we enjoyed a First Strike. Shooters returned to the line after lunch to continue their work.

Sights were adjusted, confirmation groups were shot and a second round of adjustments and confirmation groups followed.  At that point, we were ready to move on.

Next was steady hold instruction in seated and standing were presented and they were followed by related drills. The Second Strike was presented at our afternoon break.  We returned to the line for a practice AQT.

The day ended with the Saturday afternoon Red Coat which showed some improvement.  We now had 3 at 300 and 5 joined Daniel Morgan.,  This was followed by a Third Strike from Corvette and a call to action to all to be like our founders and get active in their local communities.

Sunday dawned with an early storm but the sun came out before we got started.  All the shooters returned for day two, Huzzah. After a safety re-brief and a review of Saturday's POIs, the morning Red Coat was shot. Improvement continued and we had 2 cleared Red Coats.  Great job Mark and Paul.

We moved on to several NPOA and Rifleman's Cadence drills in preparation for the AQT's to follow.

On our first AQT we made our first Rifleman. Braden, set the stage with a solid 220.  This was his first Appleseed and he struggled some on Saturday as the loaner rifle we provided has a scope that stopped holding its  zero.  We made a switch to my Appleseed rifle (Tactical Tess) and she came through again.  She has made many a Rifleman beyond just me (as Chevy Shooter can attest as he also finally shot the score with Tactical Tess) and she didn't disappoint.

On our second AQT, Mark stepped up and shot a solid 228 to earn his patch and Braden backed up his first score with a 217.  At that point we broke for lunch and the KD lecture.

After lunch on our next AQT, Mark put up a monster score of 239 which was the highest score of the day.  I rescored that target three times trying to find one more point so Mark could also earn his Distinguished rocker.   As we say at each event, targets are the most honest thing in your life.  No matter how you cut it, it was a 239 and not a 240.   Mark, please come join us again, there is a Distinguished patch in your future and maybe even a 250 waiting for you.

DOM's were presented at the afternoon break and soon thereafter we were shooting the Sunday afternoon Red Coat. The results were clear, all the work over the past two days was worth it.

We had 10 of 13 good at 100, 5 at 200, 6 at 300, 1 at 400, 6 joined Daniel Morgan and we had another cleared Red Coat.  Congrats to Mark.

Our thanks to Dillon Sportsman Center for hosting our event and my thanks to Cactus Jack and Chevy Shooter for helping with this event.

Tactical Tess comes through again. Love that rifle. It's almost like someone "who knows what they are about" put that rifle together.
