It'll be great to visit with you in a less hectic environment that NRAAM!  Will you be working the event or dropping by to check in?  I don't know where you live, so please forgive my ignorance.

Deb

Mrs. Smith

As you know, I'm at your service, milady. Whatever you need. We've had so many orange hats in El Paso this last year that I haven't told a strike in FOREVER. Which means that if I'm assigned one, poor Debbie will have to listen to me practice for a significant chunk of our 10 hour drive from Texas  **) What a lucky girl!

Seriously, though, whatever you need, I've got it.

Sam, Melissa, Trisha, have any of the shooters requested a loaner rifle? Are there any available there? I can absolutely bring two, if they're needed, but I'm flying from El Paso to Dallas, so I'm not keen on bringing them "just in case." It's a pain.

To tag onto Traci's post - what range gear is needed?  What shooter gear is needed?

I know that one person is bringing some mats and other paraphernalia - but are pop up covers needed (I have one that I can bring but I'm not expecting Traci or Trisha to bring that with them from out of town)?  Are backer boards in place?  Do we need staple guns or push pins for the targets?  OR are we using metal t-bars and orange construction fencing to hold the targets with clothes pins?

Given that so many of us are from out of town, I wasn't expecting to ask non-NE instructors to bring any rifles (although I do have a Ruger bolt action 10-22 with factory sights that I can bring).

SisaLee81

Between myself and NE Bull we have more loaner rifles than registered participants! No one has requested one at this point.

I am only an AC/RSO but am comfortable presenting safety rules, safe rifle, misfires and any of the SHF for all positions.  Will also make sure check in runs smoothly.

Since we didn't have the turnout we expected, depending on final headcount and if there is room on the line, I would like to shoot.  It would be awesome if I could take my orange hat at this event!!   Building basically a new cadre the past two seasons hasn't left much opportunity for me to qualify.

The range will set up all the backers.  They are nice wooden ones, staples work the best.  The Nebraska crew should be able to cover all range gear that will be needed.  We will have a couple pop up covers, and 5 gallon water cooler.  Otherwise please let Jeremy (NE Bull) and I know of there is anything else that you need and we will make sure to get it there.

Mercedes

Thanks, Melissa for the heads up on loaner rifles.

When you refer to the NE crew, are you only speaking for you and Jeremy or are there others that are still planning to register to work the event?

If no more instructors, then I'll use your talents on Saturday and you can plan to shoot on Sunday and score Rifleman.  How does that sound?  If we have more instructors sign up, then you can be on the line all weekend, if you'd like.

Traci and I haven't worked out all of the details yet, but we'll probably be leaving around 6 am and should arrive around dinner time on Friday.  We're staying at an Air B&B and I'm not familiar with the "check in" procedures - that's Traci's cup of tea! - but I'd love to be able to check out the range when we arrive and maybe have dinner together.  Do you know whether Trisha is driving down from WI or is she flying into Omaha and driving down with you?

Debbie

Mrs. Smith

"ONLY" an AC/RSO?  :tsk:  Horse Hockey.  This event wouldn't event be happening without you there to handle the logistics, Miz Melisa.  Let's have no more of this "only" nonsense, ok?

I agree with Debbie. I don't see any reason you can't spend Sunday behind your rifle.  Even if you are needed in your RSO capacity to help clear the line, you can still shoot. It's definitely time for you to have that orange hat!

Debbie, as I said, I'm willing to teach whatever you need me to. Jeremy gets first dibs, of course, depending on his PC needs.  I especially like instructing prone, but I can instruct or Vanna anything.

I assume someone has a dummy rifle for Vanna?

As of now it will only be Jeremy and I from the Nebraska cadre.  I have three more of my guys on reserve in case there's a boost in registrations between now and then.
We both have dummy rifles as well.  I don't need to shoot both days, Sunday would be great if we can.

I will be driving out after work that Friday afternoon and should arrive by 6pm.  I will reach out to the range contact to make sure we can have access Friday evening.  I am not sure of Trisha's travel plans yet.

I can't thank you gals enough for taking the time to come up.  I wish we would've had the turnout we were expecting but it will still be a great weekend!

NE Bull

I'll have most anything we need range supply wise. Paint, stakes, firing line ribbon. ( I was previously are scout leader, I tend to over prepare).  Melisa, I can bring poles for the flags if you want... How many will we need?
As far has me, I'm just here to provide backup for you gals.
One thing I like to do is throw out a excerpt for Patrick Henry's speech while folks are milling about during registration- kinda sets the history in motion.... If you want.
I can slide some DOM stories during any lull in the proceedings or DOW if I do a little homework) I can do any if the Safety, Firing a Shot, positions, etc as needed.  As for strikes, I'll leave that to the professionals this time around.  Otherwise I just planned on RSOing and coaching where needed.
I have a laser training rifle( trigger activated laser)  we use and a 1903 drill rifle set-up with a 1907 sling should anyone like to show that.
I'll have a Garand and M16-ARclone along and hope Toby can bring the ol Flintlock for show and tell as well.
Just let me know what else you need so you all don't have to haul it in.
PS. Melissa, the gate is now electronic and card controlled. Campers are given a gate card.

Mercedes

WOW! Thanks Traci.  I've got some homework this weekend!

So, we have Traci, Sam until lunch on Saturday, and Jeremy as instructors with Melissa where needed. Theoretically, Trisha and I aren't considered instructors at this event so this will be tight, but we can make it work.  Regardless whether the shooter count increases, I'd sure like a couple more instructors at this event if possible.   Melissa, would you please reach out to them one more time and ask them to sign up.

Also, I'd really like for you to go for Orange Hat at this event.  You mentioned that you haven't been able to shoot at any events for the past couple of years, so I'd like to give you everything that you need to reach Rifleman.  For now, plan on shooting both days.  If we need to pull you on Saturday, we can do so - you'll be the "Ace up my sleeve" so to speak!  As Traci said, we can have you assist with RSOing and can also use you to model.

Melissa, do you have access to the email address and contact information for the ladies who have signed up?  If so, would you please send that information to me and notate which women are TWAW Chapter leaders.   I'm editing the Event Email that we use for Waco and Ft Worth and I would like to send it out tomorrow or Monday.  That way if anyone needs to purchase a sling or other gear, they'll have time to receive it before the event.  If you don't have access, I'll reach out to Scuzzy and Trisha.

Jeremy, let's use your Patrick Henry excerpt between the Preamble and the First Strike since he gave this speech in March, just a couple of weeks before the events at Lexington and Concord.  I just read it in its entirety this morning.  I was wondering how to incorporate it into the event.  I'm not yet familiar with the 1903 drill rifle and 1907 sling, but I just recently read about both, so I'm excited to see both as well as your Garand and M-16.  The flintlock would be great to use as a prop during the First Strike.

Range Questions:
Is this range limited to 10-22 or can center fire be used?  At my two Texas ranges, only 10-22s can be used, so I want to edit the letter to accommodate other types of rifles that shooters can bring.  Also, are there any types of rifles and/or ammo that are prohibited, as I will need to alert the shooters of that as well. What is the range fee that we are being charged?  Is it the standard daily rate or was it discounted for Appleseed?  Finally, I'm expecting our shooters to sign a range waiver, will they also need to sit through the range's safety briefing prior to being allowed on the range?  If so, I need to build that into the schedule.

I'll start working on the COF and post it tomorrow.
Debbie

Mercedes

Jeremy,
If we need you to tell a Strike, is there one that you need to complete IIT4?
Debbie

NE Bull

I'm not ready for any strike telling at this time

Mercedes

Good to know and not a problem.  Wanted to be sure you had the chance to work toward that RH if that's where you're headed!

Trisha

Evening All!

I will be driving to NE with a friend on Friday. I plan to drop my daughters off around 8am at school and head there, this is about a 9 hour drive, but between my friend and myself, we will make it work!

Mercedes, we can definitely talk more details, but everyone please expect there to be all 3 strikes done in Saturday, like Mercedes mentioned. On Sunday, we will at least do some sort of long distance talk during lunch and small breaks during the day will be for Dangerous Dames, once in a while I do DOMs too, but that depends on how many breaks needed. All RHs should know all instruction and history(at least the 3 strikes and 1-2 different women), you maybe asked to do things at last minutes. OHs, please know at least up to your level and if you're going for the next level be ready for it.

There are two things that I ALWAYS have a RH do on Saturday and OHs can do on Sunday, these are the 4 safety rules and IMC. These are two pieces of instruction that has to be done correct the first time because one, it is safety and we need to have our shooters hear the safety rules said correctly the very first time they are said. And two, IMC I like have done by a RH on Saturday as well because it is important to keep it short and simple so there is less confusion. I also think it is good for an OH to hear it done on Saturday before I would have him or her do it on Sunday.

I can easily bring a couple loaner rifles, but am hoping I don't have to bring a line but if I do please let me know and I will pack one. I plan to bring my typical range bag with the usual items. Does anyone have a rod in case of jams? I don't have a good one.

With only 10 shooters, I do think we will be just fine with instructors, I tend to be pretty hands on while I instruct :)

Does anyone anticipate more people attending?

I'll keep looking on here if anyone has questions or comments. I do look forward to working with everyone!

SisaLee81

I do not have access to email addresses.  Susan, Debra, Kathy, Michelle and Jule all are chapter leaders.  The range does allow center fire.  No range bans in rifles or ammo.  If they use the coupon code TWAW there is a 33% discount plus a $10/day range fee.

We have plenty of loaner rifles, and slings.  We have a few different things to use for a line as well.  At this point unfortunately I really don't anticipate any last minute registrations.  If there are I'd only image a couple. We will continue to push the event until then.  I will email the rest of our crew and have then sign if we have additional sign ups.  One of them, Toby vette73, is my husband and will most likely be there, especially if needed.

I am hoping to bring one of my instructors wife with me (saves on travel expenses). I will know more in a day or so.

Since I (and Melisa) are close-ish, I plan on bringing as much as possible in supplies for setting up the range and such, so you gals traveling don't have to drag a bunch along.
I always make a list ahead of time and check it off as I load it (admittedly, I have traveled to a range, arrived with lots of cool guns and ..... no ammo.  I make a list now and check it thrice! LOL)
I will post my list hopefully later today so we can all coordinate accordingly.
As I stated before, I am willing to step in and help anywhere that is needed. I help with many women focused firearms events (I'm currently preparing for our 4th annual NRA Women On Target in early September as well as our regular CHP/CCW and Basic classes) In events such as this, and if staffing is available I prefer to take a more supportive role and let you gals take the helm. I am at your beck and call. :)
Since we will bang out all the history on Saturday, and we usually do a "Fun Shoot" of sorts on Sunday, a good break from the AQT grind(while continuing to instill the importance of NPOA and the Steps of Firing a Shot).  Is there anything in particular ya'll wanna do?  Couch/ TV?  the Memorial shoot? I have done deer targets when we had a clinic on opening day of deer season; one shot, standing or kneeling (our ancestors with a musket only had one shot or go hungry- 14 of us had to share one deer that day). It's the opening night of the State Fair.... Balloons?  Lollipops?  Fried twinkies? LOL Let me know and I can grab some supplies- if needed.

Ok, I'm off to finish moving/ unpacking/ dig thru the storage for all the stuffs. As soon as the sun finishes rising over the fog covered field outside my window......Good Morning!

Trisha

For fun shoots on Sunday at a LS, I tend to do a couple partner/team shoots where they shoot out a flower and I like to do the Redcoat Challenge. I'll look in my shoot box to see if I have extra flower pictures to bring with.

Mercedes

Since I haven't been to a shoot that does anything like what you are talking about, the COF will just read Special Target Shoot.

By the way, the range hours on Saturday are 9-5 and Sunday Noon-5.  Do we have access earlier on either or both days?

I also need to know whether are shooters are being charged the $15 range fee each day or if it's been reduced.

Thanks,
Debbie

Hey, gang! Just checking in.  I've been on a string of 12hr graveyard shifts, so you can imagine how useless I've been  :boohoo:

Anyway, back on days.  Is there anything I can do?

Oh!!!  A contest!!! Tell you what,  Jeremy,  spend a lifetime working days and evenings, then work a week of graves, get off of your last one at 0700, then start your next shift at 0600 the very next day, and tell me how you feel  :P

I wonder, though, regarding their operating hours on Sunday...  are we still going to be starting at 8, or not until noon? Definitely a good question!

That's good news! I'd have hated to have a compressed Sunday.

Lol now you know my pain ;D. We have a dedicated graveyard staff, but apparently they like to take vacations occasionally.  Go figure lol

We're a week away!!!!

I posted the COF yesterday and just listed the POIs, etc. in the first post of this string.  Mrs. Smith gave us some homework with stories of various women who played an instrumental role, although largely unheralded or celebrated, during the American Revolution and the war that followed.

Please let me know which of the Ladies' story(ies) you wish to tell so I can add them to the list.

I have an email off to the range superintendent to ensure everything is set up and ready to and am awaiting a reply.  As Jeremy mentioned he is camping onsite and will be our gate guy!  The range should have the gate open for participants by 8am both days.
The range fee is $10/day, most people prefer to pay for both days at once.l.  As an AC  extraordinar lol I can take care of check in/registration and collect all range fees.  I will also handle getting range fees to proper person after the event. I will have at least two copies of the check in sheets.  Please let me know if you'd like more printed.
The shoot box arrived yesterday.  I haven't had a chance to really did through it yet. But I will have everything organized and ready to go.
Where was the COF posted, I must have missed it.  Thanks!
