We've kicked off the weekend with a great start. Wonderful weather, no wind, no rain, mid-70's, sunny and just great, overall. After the morning briefing, where everyone learned how safe an Appleseed event can and should be, we took on the morning Redcoat. Right out of the gate, two of ten shooters cleared every stage and also joined Daniel Morgan's team. Great shooting by Jim and Jamie!

We then moved through the steps to building a good foundation, including Steady-Hold Factors, the Six Steps (I think that a few were impressed to learn that there is more to firing a shot than just pulling the trigger), then on to NPOA. Before the afternoon was over, we had a chance to introduce the AQT and run through a practice sequence.

We spent some time learning about IMC and how to adjust sights, based on groups, then covered the three strikes. Before we realized it, we were shooting the afternoon Redcoat, where we had a shooter repeat the morning performance. Congrats, Jim. Let's see if you can make it a three-peat (or even four?)

Everyone went home a little tired, but looking forward to coming back tomorrow to take on the AQT. With some of the groups that were being put together today, I have little doubt that we'll be handing out some patches by the end of the day, tomorrow.

And I have to mention that the highlight of the day for me, at my first event as a full Shoot-Boss, was to award a new Orange Hat (it even has the new Appleseed logo). Thanks, Jim, for stepping forward.

It was a great day and Sunday will be as well.

Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

Sunday dawned with weather that was just as nice. Temps were moderate, and the sun was slightly obscured by a light cloud cover. Hardly even a need for sunscreen. After a review of safety, we got down to some serious shooting, in all positions.

By the end of the afternoon, we had a total of four Riflemen and had recruited a couple of snipers to keep the Redcoats at bay. We also had three sharpshooters who cleared the Redcoat over the weekend. And while Jim didn't hit the four-peat, he did a grand job with a Three-Peat!

Several qualified multiple times, including Mike. He started with an exact 210 (and was baptized with waters that may have, at some point in time, passed under the North Bridge), ending the day with a 220. High scores for the weekend went to Jamie and Nate, both with a 237.

The weekend wouldn't have been complete without recognizing our future, and awarding patches to the youth who had stuck it out, with good spirit and safe rifle-handling, throughout the weekend...

And the culmination to the weekend was not just one, but two individuals stepping forward to accept  Orange Hats. Even more special was that they were father and son. One on Saturday and one on Sunday.

What a great Apple Seed weekend at the Slippery Rock Sportsman Club. A great big thank you to the members for shutting down the complete club in order for us to hold a AS this past weekend. Everything seemed to just click, especially on Sunday. Great attitudes from all and what can I say about the improvement of skills that were shown. I believe there is a dad that attended this weekend that needs to purchase a new shirt or hat for his daughter that has the saying "Shoot like a girl......If you can".

A great weekend. Can't wait till the next one.
