Later years, when Washington was visiting that area again, an Indian Chief traveled to meet him there.

The Chief said he had met Washington there some 15-20 years earlier (I believe it was that length of time), at that battle.   He had directed his warriors to target the officers, and when Washington was the last officer standing, they all targeted him.

The Chief said he shot at shot at Washington 17 times (again, from memory so this may be off) and his rifle was never known to miss.

After this he called off his men, realizing the gods were watching over Washington.

Washington later wrote his brother, told him about having holes shot through his coat, combing bullet fragments out of his hair, and having several horses shot out from underneath him.

An exciting story, and a great piece of American History, here is a book about this topic:   http://shop.wallbuilders.com/The-Bulletproof-George-Washington-Book

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
