Dr. Jerry Pournelle

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck."

Roland, congratulations from Joni and I.
You have good reason for the tremendous smile in the picture at the top of this page.

We are looking forward to working with you again as soon as we get over in your neck of the woods.

Congrats Roland you have worked hard at it and have done it well.

Roland

OK, I have a few people I'd like to thank for making this possible.

First off, thank you to my parents for many reasons that I hope are obvious. Especially my dad, eert, for bringing me to my first Appleseed.

Second, thanks to Fred for starting this program.

All the instructors I have worked with, thank you. You have all helped me become a better instructor, and a better person.

There are some instructors who have influenced me more then others. Earl and Hawkhavn were at my very first shoot, and their great instruction made me decide I wanted to do the same thing someday. The entire Redneck clan has been at most of the same shoots I have, and has helped me out countless times.

All of you who have replied to this thread, thanks, and if I haven't already, I hope to work with you soon.

The shooters are what this program is all about, and I have to thank them for coming out to their first Appleseed. Especially if they came back. And most of all if they picked up an Orange hat.

Now, if you will excuse me, I just had an idea on how to improve my third strike.

The doorway to freedom is framed by the muskets that stood between a vision of of liberty and absolute anarchy at a place called Concord Bridge--Charlton Heston, 1997

"Be a man of principle. Fight for what you believe in. Keep your word. Live with integrity. Be brave. Believe in something bigger than yourself. Serve your country. Teach. Mentor. Give something back to society. Lead from the front. Conquer your fears. Be a good friend. Be humble and be self-confident. Appreciate your friends and family. Be a leader and not a follower. Be valorous on the field of battle. And take responsibility for your actions. Never forget those that were killed. And never let rest those that killed them." -- Major Douglas Zembiec

Gosh If I had know you were bucking for the red hat this weekend I would have given you more greif!
Congratulations Dirk!
