I was just watching "The Revolution" on the history channel just a while ago,(it's going to be on for a few hours so you might want to catch some of it now!) it mentioned 1776 was a low year for the revolution (until Trenton) and the continental army and that Thomas Paine was inspired to write The American Crisis. I decided to google that and here it is for those who wish to read.
