New Year's Greetings,

Now that the New Year is upon us I thought it good to convey to you all what we are up to in the state of Idaho, and some of what we hope to achieve in the year 2010.

As of this writing we have eight shoots scheduled in Idaho for this year. The events are in Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston, and I would urge you to check with the shoot schedule on the forum for details.

We are not, however, satisfied with what we presently have scheduled, and are presently actively seeking to secure additional host facilities for more events. This is sometimes a process that is slower than we would prefer, but one which we hope will be successful. We presently have local supporters in southern Idaho and eastern Washington attempting to get our foot 'in the door' with new locations. If you or someone you know is aware of a potential host please get them in touch with me. This is the time of year when we really want to be pushing to get things scheduled so that we can plan for, and staff, the shoots.  In addition to this, we would very much like to locate a place where we could establish a DAR (Dedicated Appleseed Range). This would likely be a piece of privately owned land where we could negotiate a longer term arrangement with the owner to use for our shoots. Anyone with any likely prospects for something like this should put me in touch with the owner.

Our local and regional training corps has expanded in the last year, and we now have access to at least two Shoot Bosses (Pa Rah & Earl), a couple of real Red Hats (tdow & Western Rose) and a sizeable number of IIT's at various stages of training. We are looking forward to expanding the number and level of our instructor staff which will enable us to more efficiently staff more shoots.

Once again, this is the time to push ahead with expanding our program. Time is of the essence, so I urge you to get off of the starting blocks now. If we are energetic in our efforts to sow now we are far more likely to have something to reap. Lethargy and complacency are our greatest enemies, so do not tarry.

Best regards for the coming year,
Reformed Redneck

I do like the idea that Earl and Pa Rah are now considered assets for Idaho, when we live in neighboring states - but that is what being neighbors is about, isn't it?  O0
... to catch the fire in another American for sharing the skills and our heritage to our posterity. Maybe my perfect shots will be made by those I met along the trials and trails of Appleseed. I know that America is a nation of Riflemen.

p.s. What the heck is going on, I just checked and it's 25* warmer in Coeur d'Alene than southern Indiana???

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

Hawkhavn, you're planning a trip to Idaho soon to warm up, right?

Earl, Pa Rah even ASKED to be considered in Idaho. How cool is that?

Earl, we allow those from the far westside only if we like them. "Since we're neighbors, let's be friends". Heh. Heh.

tdow, you really are a neighbor by norther Idaho standards.

Hawkhavn, you haven't even been to Lewiston yet. More like Phoenix of the Inland Northwest. Doesn't hardly freeze down there.

Western Rose, I assume you mean "you're" not "your". Right?

Sounds like a plan to me!
We have a mini scheduled out here for 16 January, we'll see if it gets above freeezing!
