Tusco Rifle Club was kind enough to host us again and Saturday morning started off with sunny skies, warm breezes and a line of eager students.  20 of 33 had never been to an Appleseed event before, we got to spread the message of heritage and marksmanship to a whole new bunch on a special day.  And I got to do my SBIT3 on Patriot's Day!

Being new shooters, it was slow going but the students persisted, Instructors improvised, adapted and overcame the challenges and we almost got through Saturday's planned instruction.  Almost.  The sky had been darkening for a while, we'd been checking weather reports and then it came.  Sudden torrential rain, high wind and then thunder.  We cased rifles, stowed our gear and adjourned to a dry clubhouse to listen to the Third Strike.

Sunday morning showed us cloudy skies and the temperature had dropped fifty degrees overnight.  Unfortunately, that did keep a few from returning.  But 27 did return and the night's rest had done them good.  We shot our morning Redcoat and resumed where we left off Saturday.  The pieces started falling into place for our students and things progressed more quickly.  Impressive, considering how many were new not just to Appleseed, but to shooting.  We made up ground, covered the points of instruction and got to a couple AQT's.  Throughout the day we paused for re-tellings of the  Dangerous Old Men.  Since there were several young ladies attending, Sybill Luddington had her story told.  And the Memorial Volley.  The names read.  The shots fired.  And what those men handed down to us two and a half centuries later.  This, ladies and gentlemen, is why we do what we do.

Yours in liberty,

Tusco is a great place and it is made even better surrounded a great crew!  The title Shoot Boss is well deserved by Chris he handled the challenges presented during his SBITS with professionalism and a great deal of care for those around him.

I hope to see all the students in the future to build upon their skills and maybe even get a new hat color!
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery
