Hi Joe!! Welcome!

I see from your profile you used to be a shoot boss, but I don't believe we've met :) how long has it been?

I just put in to have Joe reinstated. Last event was in 2019. He was one of the originals from back before we even kept records on all of this stuff.

"j1mmyd" here

Former CA & VA IIT now looking to get busy again near Austin.

Made Rifleman a couple times (Sac Valley, CA and Ellenton, FL) and was doing the IIT-0 thing in VA. Shoots were 8 hours each way and I was trying to stay married at the time, so I made the wrong choice and gave up Appleseed. :-/

I'd love to be involved again now that the mean lady is gone and its just the pups and I.

Howdy Texans, shout out from the Houston area- happy shooting to all!

Howdy, 96txag here.

First and most-recent event:  Appleseed - Waco, TX 5/19/2024

Upcoming event:  Appleseed - Waco, TX 9/20/2025

Qualifications:  Rifleman, 5/19/2024

Quick back-story:  I first became aware of Project Appleseed in 2012, when I saw the Appleseed flyer pictured below, posted in a park in California.  The flyer featured a young lady holding a beautiful wood-stocked AR-15.  As a shooting enthusiast, I had to learn more about Project Appleseed.  It took me awhile to get my act together to finally attend an Appleseed event, but it was well worth the wait, and everything I had hoped it would be.  Now I'm preparing for my second event and bringing one of my daughters to shoot as well.

Green Bean

Retired IIT here looking to attend an event with my son who is now 17.  He is interested in maybe going into law Enforcement, military, or firefighting and has shown interest in learning to shoot properly.  It's his first time wanting to learn the right way and there is no better program in my opinion than Appleseed.

I have not been active in over ten years.  Attended my RBC at Ramseur August 2012 and IBC in Dallas 2012.  If anyone is still around from back then, I was a Border Patrol agent from Laredo and mainly went to events in Fredericksburg.  But also did a few shoots at Scout's place and a few around the state.

I will register my son for the next event in Fredericksburg at the end of January.  If I want to just hangout with him and help out a little, should I also register?

Looking forward to relearning everything I have forgotten.

Mrs. Smith

Hey there Green Bean! No need to register if you're just there for moral support and good company. They'll just ask you to sign the waiver, of course.

Brand new here, just learned of Appleseed. Looking forward to learning more and maybe trying it out.

our SW Regional Coordinator is in Spring!  He's recently made some inroads to a local(ish, at least) range, so hopefully we'll see Appleseeds in the Houston area soon!

That would be great. Hempstead isn't cross country and is a doable day trip but closer would be a plus. Where is he working with, if it can be told yet.

ShooterMagoo

I'm guessing the Hempstead range is what Mrs. Smith is referring to. The Appleseed in April is the first event I've seen scheduled there, although I'm new around here.

I'm in the Houston(ish) area too, so it's also close enough for a day trip for me. The others I've attended all take a hotel stay.

LDB415

Yes, I'm sure it must be. The more I learn the less I know. I'm used to GSSF matches which are two days but actually only part of a day. You go whichever is convenient and take your turn. But I learn more and Appleseed is not that at all. It is full days of continual newness. So where I was thinking avoiding a hotel and not repeat day one on day two that isn't it. If I don't attend day two there is a lot I won't get. So that leads to do I make a 100 minute 75 mile drive home and then repeat at too early the next morning or budget a hotel. Or do day one and on my next outing do day two. Luckily there is time to decide.

Hempstead does allow camping - it says

"$20/day/person.  On site camping is allowed. You must contact us at TX@appleseedinfo.org beforehand to make arrangements."

I've always slept on the ranges I volunteer at. Not ideal but better than a round trip drive each day.

My desire to be well informed is currently at odds with my desire to remain sane.

My camping days are long past. I'll figure out which option though. :)

Gus

Gus here.

Can't believe I missed this check in! :)
Been in Texas since 2022. Moved here from Alaska, which is where I became involved with Appleseed.

Worked quite a few shoots in 2024 and 2025. Really enjoy this organization.

Looking forward to 2026!

Happy New Year to All.
