Afternoon, all!!

Poking around on social media the other day, I was called to look at a post on the page for Quantified Performqnce, LLC, and posted by none other than Ash Hess.

The challenge?

Post a standard 25m AQT at 100 yards, and shoot a rifleman's score.

for those of you with facebook, here's the link to the post  https://www.facebook.com/QuantifiedPerformanceLLC/photos/a.398514274075495/501650940428494/?type=3&theater

This is the link to the Challenge web page  https://www.patreon.com/posts/31896800?fbclid=IwAR151Sud6GHmlWbdV9vIJGRnf-6bwToT4ZOHdhn2JMWossBxVlUkdLSyOwQ

This is simple, if not easy  ^-^

Go to your favorite range with an Appleseed friend.
Wear some Appleseed gear.
Post a standard AQT at 100 yards.
Shoot!  Score!  Take pictures!!!!

Post them to this thread!

I'll post them to the QP facebook page as they roll in.   Ramblin' Wreck, would this qualify as an honorable mention on the Team Appleseed page? We should probably set a time limit.... Say.... any time before New Year's Day?  Will that work?

I already have several cadre who've accepted the challenge:

ACPJunkie
VWMakesMeTwitchy
Jerry Hall
Carlos.A.Franco
HotAirBill
DesertRose
Myself
Mr. Smith
Captain
the Bonsells

Jerry and Bill want to try it with .22lr

Anybody else game?

what positons? scope of course

Exactly like the standard AQT, as I read it. The only thing different is distance.  Although... the web page says something about equipment you'd use for competition. Not entirely sure what that means. Stabilizing jackets, perhaps?

Stage 4 -- the 5 point area is 1 " wide - 1 MoA at 100 yards. 4 point area  is 1.5 inches or 1.5 MoA @ 100 yards - I suspect the instructions to use the support equipment you would in competition means 100-yard bench rest competition.

Let me see if I can get clarification on that.

We actually used to shoot various types non AQT type target shooting known as ‘Postal Matches'.
https://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=39058.0

The Advanced AQT, as we called it, was shot prone, bipod or off a shooting pack.
High score got bragging rights.  We still do these time permitting at our KD type events.
There are numerous variations or rules one can come up with.
These are great fun and a great camaraderie builder. :F

Remember, placing an AQT at 100 yards represents 400, 800, 1200 and 1600 yards. :snipersmi

So doing times, transitions and mag changes will provide all the challenge you want! ^:)^
You will find you might need a bit better rig and skills than our rack grade standard of 4 MOA.

Well. I sabotaged myself be heading to the range without the target.

Well we went, it was a BEAUTIFUL day, and we had a good time and learned a BUNCH.

We did NOT, however, successfully score a Rifleman's score on a standard AQT posted at 100 yards.   :-[

In attendance were Jerry Hall, Mr. Smith, VXMakesMeTwitchy, DesertRose, ACPJunkie, and myself.

Using only a sling, even ACPJunkie only managed scores in the 170s, and he's easily the strongest shooter in the group.

The consensus is that the challenge simply isn't do-able using traditional Appleseed techniques.  With mainstream match gear and a bipod, maybe, but not with a sling only.   :wb:

The flipside is that EVERY SINGLE FLAW in the shooters' techniques, flaws that don't really hurt you at 25m, are stripped bare for the world to see when applied at 100 yards and attempting 1 MOA accuracy.  Boy, was that an eye-opener. :-\  That does make this challenge an extremely useful training tool.

At any rate, we all had fun, and it was good to hang out and shoot together outside of an event and in a more social environment.   :partytime:

Cheers, ya'll.   :F

Ran it today.

Dang! is all I can say.
145 was my total, i stopped at second target because i lost count of level 2 and put 6 holes in first target, bummer.
Plus the range was closing.
I did a few things for prep.
Got my 100 yard zero using squares.
I took the advice from Mrs. Smith post (cool hat btw) and worked from a supported base first.
I used my UKKD (unknown distance kd) scope 6x24.
Key, vital key Focus on the front post or reticle.
I hit 2 moa groupings on first two stages than my focus fell apart.
I will try again in a few days

I'm gonna try this just for giggles.

Heck of a challenge idea!

This was fun. I may have to try it again. In theory I'm better now than I was  ;D

Just saw this. I am going to try it.  I might have to use a scope, I don't think my eyes are up to it without one.

Geek

We executed this challenge as our fun shoot this past weekend.  With a breeze, it was humbling.  For those that are curious as to the scales represented, they become 400, 800, 1200, and 1600 yrds.  You are shooting at just over a 1 MOA target when you get to the bottom row.  That being said, if you practice at 25 yds by shooting a .25" target, that is how this scales.  Our brave shooters had a high score of 93, and a top hits count value of 10.  Two folks did get fabulous prizes of unspeakable value  At a rimfire KD, this was fun for all that participated as well as observed.

"This country has been made by the Timothy Murphys, the men in the ranks. Conditions here called for qualities of heart and hand that Tim Murphy had in abundance. Our histories should tell us more about the men in the ranks, for it was to them, more than to the generals that we were indebted for our military victories." -  Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as New York Governor, 1929, at the dedication of the memorial to Murphy

Mrs. Smith

Sounds like a great time, Geek!  It is, indeed, humbling.  And thoroughly unforgiving  :slap:   but also good fun.  Well done!

Well 9 attempts later I was able to achieve a high score of 188. It is definitely an extremely difficult and humbling challenge

Mrs. Smith

I think that's the highest score I've seen yet on this. Well done!

Big John

Tried it once today in the wind with a 308 kicking me around. Got a 74. My typical 25m AQT is 230s. I think I could get to about 100, easily, but peter out after that.

I only tried once. I do have some advice. Many years ago, before I learned of the importance of 6 oclock hold for iron sights for this reason, I was shooting a 25m AQT with iron sights at center of mass. On stage 4, I found myself "looking around" the front sight blade as it was occluding the target as it came back into NPOA and respiratory pause. I have never had that since in ten years, until today, when I found that the stage 4 target is so small at 100 yards, I found myself trying to "look around" the scope's reticle to see the target. I was shooting at minimum magnification. When I try again, I will experiment with magnification and dry fire before beginning the stage as I will have to have at least some magnification over minimum for that stage just to see them enough that the sights work. I will find the minimum necessary and stay at that value for that stage.

Mrs. Smith

very logical approach, John.  It is one heck of a challenge.
