After several days of rainfall (yes, tropical storms get all the way into Kansas sometimes), Saturday dawned partly cloudy and in the upper 70's, beautiful weather to spend a weekend at the range. The Project Appleseed – Kansas cadre were joined in Whitewater Kansas by fourteen folks (six Appleseed veterans and eight newcomers) interested in learning marksmanship skills and hearing about our history and heritage.

We are very grateful to the Air Capital Gun Club for again hosting our 25m clinic at their fine facility.

Saturday started out with the basics, both in shooting skills and history and we built on it in steps as the day progressed. The events of April 19, 1775 were covered in the three strikes as was rifle safety, fundamentals, positions, and the results.

At the end of the afternoon, we shot an AQT and Andrew immediately answered the call with a very nice 218. Chris came painfully close with a 209. The day ended with presentation of the coveted Rifleman patch to Andrew.

Sunday morning arrived with several acknowledging that they were feeling the effects of not regularly engaging in positional shooting. There were some faces missing as well but we gained four Appleseed veterans that had scheduling conflicts the previous day.

The day began with reviews of rifleman skills and then moved onto the AQT course. Interspersed with AQTs were review drills, a zero check, Parker's Revenge, and lunch with Dangerous Old Man (and Women) stories.

Parker's Revenge exercise was conducted with shooters in pairs rather than threes as the math worked better. The competition as it were, was won by sisters Atlyn and Brynn with a score of 61.

In addition to Andrew on Saturday, Rifleman scores were achieved by:
Morgan: 225, and 217. Yee-Lum: 214, 218, and 219. Chris: 236. Jason: 211, 213, 220, 222 and 226. Brynn: 224, 243, 233, 237, and 215. Atlyn: 241, 231, 236, 230, and 243.

In addition to Rifleman patches presented to the above participants, Distinguished tabs were presented to Atlyn and Brynn.

To conclude the weekend, Morgan, having completed his second clinic and shooting Rifleman scores multiple times, stepped up to volunteer his services to instruct and was awarded an orange hat as an Instructor in Training. WELCOME ABOARD!!!
