Theodore Roosevelt, The Winning of the West.

Reading now, and haven't quite got to the Revolution yet, but the details that he lays out with the  expansion of the American frontier on the westward side of Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, the men like Daniel Boone, the daily life, the armed conflict with the Indians, the traders, the frontiersmen; just incredible levels of detail.  Very readable.

Completely new perspective on Captain Morgan, and his company of Riflemen.  And why they were so successful.

Highly, highly recommended.

"The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed — where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once."
