Mr. Clean

Eight students and one instructor came to sharpen their pistol skills and hear America's founding story. They braved the North Idaho winter wonderland after the previous whole overnight and whole day of incessant snowfall. This group further displayed their seriousness with their skills, receptiveness to instruction, safety discipline, and ultimately their respectable PQT scores. It is always a joy to instruct good students in marksmanship. Some came from as far away as North of Seattle, despite a closed pass, making it a 10-hour drive. Way to persist through the difficulties. That kind of persistence paid off with three students and our own instructor earning the Pistoleer™ patch. On Sunday, the instructor shooting on the line as a student, earned his Distinguished Pistoleer™ patch. Good job AR Gunner!
During every prep period, the whole line was busy in dry practice without needing to be reminded of its importance in learning. As we taught blocks of instruction, I would point out if it was a skill that could easily be practiced at home, without the need for a trip to the range or expense of ammo. Keep up the dry practice at home and see the difference it makes on your next range day. Just keep up the safety protocols, like not having any ammo even in the same room with you and consciously beginning and ending the dry practice. I'm looking forward to seeing each of these serious students of the pistol in a future Appleseed event, along with the newcomers you brought along. Telling others about Appleseed is the seventh step to firing a shot, so tell a friend and come back for more.

I appreciated the level of attentiveness and safety-consciousness that all the shooters displayed.  It really helps us as instructors to be able to focus our attention on helping to improve marksmanship.  I also appreciated the observations and suggestions from our Washington visitors that will help us to improve future events.

Having Beardo as an Applecore was another great help to making things run smoothly. I look forward to having him at future events. Thanks!

Congratulations to the new and re-qualified Pistoleer™™s, and congratulations to ARGunner on shooting a Distinguished Pistol Score! That's a high bar the rest of us can continue to strive for. Huzzah!

"The great object is that every man be armed." - Patrick Henry

"The great body of our citizens shoot less as time goes on.  We should encourage rifle practice among schoolboys, and indeed among all classes, as well as in the military services by every means in our power. Thus, and not otherwise, may we be able to assist in preserving peace in the world...The first step - in the direction of preparation to avert war if possible, and to be fit for war if it should come - is to teach men to shoot!"       - President Theodore Roosevelt's last message to Congress

"If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?" -- Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

"If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place, oblige it to control itself." James Madison 2-8-1788
