What a great way to spend a weekend.  Beautiful weather and centerfire rifles shooting full distance.  The South Kent Sportsman's Club is a great host.  Thank you for letting us have access to the facility.  It is a premier range.  We had 9 shooters on the line for the weekend.  Some were new to KD, others were back to improve prior scores.  After a discussion of our goals for the weekend, we had our safety brief.  It was off to engage Morgan's Shingle at 250 yrds.  2 folks made their mark.  TheGunslingingGamer, and Macula Mamma hit the cold bore shot and earned their patch.  We moved back to the standard firing line and started our course of instruction.  SteelThunder led the group through various topics as the participants needed it.  Sighters at 100 showed promise.  We shot for score and started sighters at 200.  We started talking about things like trajectory and what was expected of the bullet's flight path with different height sights.  After shooting the 200 yd target for score, we moved to sighters and 300 and added the topic of wind.  Everyone was on paper and getting good DOPE.  Once we shot for score on 300, we talked more about trajectory and put sighters on the 400yd targets.  More data collected and some additional sighters were needed at this distance.  We finished shooting the 400 yd targets and tallied scores.  We had one shooter requal with 41.  Well done Scotch.  With all of the targets pasted, we shot coming back from 400 and scored again.  Scotch proved his skills with another 41.  Mr Zeke requal'd with a 42.  Steel closed out comments for the day with a personal note on 'If not me, who?'

The crew came back refreshed after a good night of rest and the passing of a storm.  Once the targets were all put back in order, we did a repeat of yesterday on the goals and safety brief.  Then it was off to engage Morgan's Shingle one more time with cold bore shots.  Mr Zeke and Scotch made their mark, earning the patch.  Once back to the standard firing line we discussed BSZ.  Shooters were encouraged to dial in their 300 yd data and shoot the next AQT utilizing BSZ.  After 3 more AQTs, Mr. Zeke requal'd again and Erik hit our high of the day with a requal score of 47.  After lunch we worked in a ranging exercise too.  We had the shooter pair up and average their findings.  Mr. Zeke and Macula Mamma won closest ranging by besting 4 out of 5 targets.  They averaged within about 5 yrd for each target.  What an outstanding show of skill.

I want to thank my instructor crew of SteelThunder, Echo Charlie, JHB, Fidget, wingwrench, and jennwilber73.  wingwrench hit his 25-event mark at this event too.  What a great accomplishment and show of dedication.

I look forward to seeing all of you folks on the line at a future event.  Remember, dry fire is the best way to improve your shooting and is free.

"This country has been made by the Timothy Murphys, the men in the ranks. Conditions here called for qualities of heart and hand that Tim Murphy had in abundance. Our histories should tell us more about the men in the ranks, for it was to them, more than to the generals that we were indebted for our military victories." -  Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as New York Governor, 1929, at the dedication of the memorial to Murphy

  Great range; Thank You S.K.S.C.

Great cadre to work an event with; thanks all!!

Excellent group of shooters to spend a weekend with.

A great big "Bless You, Thank You" to Fidget & Hubby for a place to crash for a good night's sleep.

It was good to work on strength and endurance after surgery back in August.

  Thank you everyone!!

P.S. That ranging exercise has FASCINATING results from people who were just minutes beforehand introduced to the subject matter and information.

Congratulations to Steel Thunder for putting together that point of instruction!!

What a great weekend of weather and shooting to distance with the Appleseed crew and fellow shooters!

It was great to stretch my rifle and get good dope in order to re-qualify for KD rifleman on the first AQT and earn the Morgan's shingle patch for the first time on day 2. It was confirmation that my equipment (and your good instruction) was up to the challenge.

The range at SKSC is perfect for this event and makes it a pleasure to shoot for the 2 days.

Thanks to all the instructors for their generous offering of time and expertise to help us become better shooters. Hope to see you all next year!

Scotch out!
