The weekend of August 9 and 10 was a hot one at Central Arkansas Shooters Association in Perryville, AR.  This was our first event at the CASA range.  10 Appleseeders (7 first time attendees!) were not deterred by the heat and arrived Saturday morning ready to face the day!  Once we heard the First Strike and the safety briefing, we brought rifles to the line and, after a quick review of the safety rules, shot the Hits Count target. We worked our way through several squares targets, coaching and making corrections. At lunch, we listened to Jayhawker present the 2nd Strike.  And afterwards, we posted a few more squares, and were able to shoot a couple of AQT's before hearing Guns&Hoses' presentation of the 3rd Strike and calling it a day.
Sunday would prove to be just as hot as Saturday (after all, it is August in Arkansas!).  We had 7 returning shooters ready to get to it.  After a review, Hits Count target and some warm-up squares, we were able to begin more AQT's.  Everyone shot respectable scores with Randy requalifying with 3 separate Rifleman scores. Coleman did a fantastic job at his first Appleseed event using a rifle with iron sights and posting scores in the 190's.  Dad Alan shot well and was very supportive of Coleman. Shane and Eli were unable to attend on Sunday but I feel certain they would have done well as they were posting good scores on Saturday. It was wonderful to see fathers and sons together on the line!  Zach came for his first Appleseed and did a great job. I expect to see him again and feel certain he will take home a Rifleman patch at a future event. It was great having William and Tricia attend. I've shot with them before in other shooting disciplines and was excited to see them at this Appleseed.  Great job both of you!  Tony had some mobility issues and decided to sit this one out.  I hope to see you again!  Stephen shot very respectable scores and, I think, might be persuaded to take a blue hat as he seems to love what Appleseed is about.
As the weekend came to a close, I believe that everyone headed home hot and tired but satisfied.  Marksmanship improved overall (as shown by the final Hits Count target) and stories of liberty and our nation's history were told.
Thank you Guns&Hoses, Jayhawker & Chunn1 for your excellent instruction and presentation of our history.  And a big thank you to CASA for allowing us the use of their range, pop-ups and fans! I look forward to holding future events here.  A special thank you to Stephen and Randy who were both instrumental in getting this event on the schedule at CASA.  Their help with this event was invaluable!   Thanks to both of you!
