One of the Virginia rifleman companies raised pursuant to the resolutions of the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1775 was under the command of Capt. Hugh Stephenson in Mecklenburg, now Shepherdstown, WV.  (Of course, the other Virginia company was under the command of Daniel Morgan.)

On Saturday, July 19, 2025 there will be an encampment of Revolutionary War reenactors at Shepherdstown WV's Morgan's Grove Park.  One of the formal presentations shall be by Travis Shaw, Director of Education, Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area.  He shall be presenting "I am persuaded they will do great execution — The Maryland and Virginia Rifle companies of 1775."

There will be several other interesting presentations during the event and a parade.

"Bluegrass Colonel"
My father didn't serve in WWII.  It wasn't for lack of trying.  He attempted to enlist 3 separate times.  The last time the doctor said he was too short.  He responded that he signed up again because he said he saw a poster that was recruiting short men to be pilots.  The doctor said, "Short, yes.  But this is ridiculous."  In my book, he's still a hero.
