Project Appleseed returned to the Walker County Sheriff's Office for the first time this year to spread the message of Liberty.  Many thanks to the Sheriff's Department for allowing us the opportunity for another shoot at their outstanding range, and we look forward to future events there!

Saturday weather was perfect with bright sunshine and light winds.  It was a great day for six first-time Appleseeders and five returning friends who all had a great time on the line.

We began with the First Strike of the Match and the events at Lexington Green.  After the Safety Briefing, we started with thirteen shots at the Hits Count Target and quickly realized we had some real shooters with us.  Several instructors remarked on the excellent marksmanship from the group and we expected new Riflemen by the end of the first day!

A great group of Shooters!

We covered sling use, the Six Steps of Firing the Shot, and Natural Point of Aim, then tied it all together with the prone position.  Shooters practiced every new skill and shooting improved while we shot squares.  Hardholder told us about the battle at Concord during the Second Strike, then it was back to shooting.   We continued drills and practice, then adjusted sights using IMC after a great presentation by Major Tom.   We took a break for the Third Strike and the final events of April 19, 1775.  Jackson and Ron scored Rifleman on the first AQT, with scores of 229 and 211!  Several others were close but impending rain and higher winds convinced the motivated shooters to finish with another Hits Count and call it a day.

Jackson with a 229!

Ron with a 211; I tried to make it a 210 but the other instructors wouldn't let me!

Sunday morning brought wind gusts of 25 miles-an-hour that destroyed Major Tom's canopy!  The wind also toyed with our target line and had some shooters wondering, "When did they switch to moving targets?"   We drove the stakes deeper into the ground and persevered, only to find gremlins had gotten into several rifles (or shooters!) overnight.  We shot several squares and then went to the Ball and Dummy drill to help identify problems.

We took a break for lunch and GTEngineer's Known Distance presentation.  Several shooters were very interested and we hope to see them on the line at HISR on Patriot's Day!  That really will be a great  event!

Jackson, Jack, Jacob, and Brad in his Zone of Concentration!

After lunch we shot the first of three AQTs, with Jackson qualifying again but not beating his 229 from Saturday.  Jack continued to improve and beat his Dad on one of the AQTs; both are anxious to become IIT's after qualifying at their second event!  The shooters heard more history while scoring AQTs.  Several shooters had to leave early;  but Brad, Jackson, and Jerauld enjoyed going to the 100 yard line and shot some great groups.  More importantly, all three scopes returned to zero when we went back to 25M for the final Hits Count Target, so they know their scopes are dependable!

Another big thank you for the Walker County Sheriff's Department for hosting us; we look forward to coming back next year!

Shooters, remember the brave men and women who fought for the Liberty we enjoy today and the cost of their efforts.  Let's honor that sacrifice by preserving Liberty for our posterity as well.  I hope to see you at another Appleseed soon, and bring friends!

What a great event. Thank you to all the students who showed up to learn more about Liberty!! We saw some great shooting and very coachable attitudes. It was an honor to serve all you this past weekend.

Don't forget to go home and dry fire, practice those positions, and practice quickly finding your NPOA.

If you do that, you'll be ready to earn your patch next time! Hope to see y'all soon.
