Kudos to my birth state for a C, I would be curious to see where Illinois new proposed designs would score (hint: one has a butterfly). We can only go up.

My neighbor, Maine, proposed a new design last year and was rejected by voters ?!? I mean it wouldn't have been S tier, but so much better than state seal on blue

That's actually quite nice, Matt. I wonder if the voters don't know the significance of the pine tree.

Interesting. If nothing else as a mental exercise.  I actually agree with with criteria for what makes a good flag.  I just don't agree with the application in this video.  Interestingly enough I think we did something like this in my middle school social studies class.

I find interesting that He rated Utah's flag as an A and was exceedingly complimentary of the beehive symbol, but I had to look up what it meant; however, with the South Carolina flag he rated it a D and mentioned the Angel Oak.  Pretty sure nobody in the world associates SC with the Angel Oak.

Then he ranked Hawaii's flag as a B and it has another country's flag in it.
When I see Maryland's flag, I always think NASCAR but it is rated as "super"  :)

As best I can tell the author of this channel is from the UK. (I watched it with CC. The website is from the UK).  It would make sense that he rated the South Carolina as D.  Because one way to interpret the SC state flag is that when faced with an overwhelming British naval force, South Carolinians loved liberty (what the crescent means) that they chopped down palmetto trees and made a fort to defend against the British fleet.

All that being said:  Most of the flags that are higher up on the grading scale I could recognize the state they were from.  The flags lower on the scale, I actually needed the words on them to identify the state.

I'll take it. I always thought Arkansas' flag before they added the name was MUCH better.

<--  That was it, byt the way. :cool2:

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again" Ronald Reagan
