It was a great weekend at Wears Valley Ranch. I would like to thank the Ranch and their staff for continuing to support Project Appleseed. It was a chilly morning, but 11 shooters braved the cold to learn about their Heritage and Rifle Marksmanship. We started the morning inside a warm cabin with introductions and the First Strike of the Match. Devereux taught us all about safety before we made our way to the Range. Cleveland covered line commands and ammo malfunctions. Finally, the shooters were turned loose to engage the hits count target. After scoring the targets we got right into instructions. Eye dominance, sling use, 6 steps to firing the shot, NPOA, and the Prone position were covered. Rifles were fitted and dry fire was practiced. The shooters engaged the first of several squares of the day. With groups improving Devereux taught Talking Targets. After a couple mag change drills, it was time for the most important block of the day LUNCH. Cleveland gave a very moving Second strike and Devereux taught IMC. After lunch we made sight adjustments then Cleveland taught Carding the sights and rifleman's cadence. We covered transition to prone and shot Stage 3 of the AQT. Devereux then told the Third Strike before we taught Sitting/Knelling and transition to seated. With that the shooters tried the different positions, and they shot Stage 2 of the AQT. Standing was covered and Stage 1 was shot. Stage 4 followed and while scores were tallied the shooters engaged another Hits Count Target. We had 2 requals with Tim scoring a 223 and Sean scoring a 216. Our Designated Sharpshooter Ethan shot our high score of 235  . I would like to thank all of the shooters for attending and look forward to seeing you all on the line again soon.
