I am currently reading an "alternate history" novel by Chuck DeVore called "Crisis of the House Never United."

Its premise is that the ratification of the constitution was in fact a very, very close call in some states that took delicate compromise and strong argument, and the book is a "what if" history --- what if ratification had *failed*?

It follows a fictionalized Aaron Burr's attempt to undermine ratification, and presents the plausible disaster to the nation that might have resulted from his success.

I'm only about a third of the way through it so far, but it's an engaging read and, inspired by this month's Liberty Pole article on drafting the constitution, I thought I'd drop it here as a suggestion for those with more time on their hands than they know what to do with.

Ohh... that does sound interesting.  I'll add it to my to-read list.

I've been meaning to finish reading Blood of Tyrants - George Washington & the Forging of the Presidency.  But I've been too busy for the last couple of ... years.  It was good though.
