...the alternate title, ♫ ♫ Instructors Just Wanna Have Fun ♫♫

What an AWESOME event at Ramseur this weekend!  12 instructors from FIVE states, to include Michigan and Indiana, converged on the RWVA range to accomplish several objectives:

- Have a great time!
- Enjoy each other's company in fellowship with some great Americans
- Learn something about your rifle(s)
- Get qualified (or re-qualified) in Known Distance
- Have a great time!

After some admin and academics, we spent the morning learning about our equipment, gaining DOPE using full size steel targets from 100-500 yards, all from the same firing line!  After hearing The Wolfhound's rendition of the story of the Battle of Cowpens, we spent the rest of the afternoon in full distance AQTs, closing out with a full distance Redcoat!

Thank you to everybody for making the trip out to the Home Range - it was wonderful meeting friends new and old, and I can't wait to do this again!

And because  :pics:, here are a few.

If responsibility is rightfully yours, no evasion, or ignorance or passing the blame can shift the burden to someone else. Unless you can point your finger at the man who is responsible when something goes wrong, then you have never had anyone really responsible.

What a phenomenal time, can't wait to do it again. Great to meet new friends from all over.

Fantastic event - thank you to all!

Even though we teach KD basics at every event and run some RKD events in our area, a full distance KD is a great reminder that this stuff works if you apply your fundamentals and make the shot (not that it is easy!). It was fun to qualify with 556 and 762 - all irons next time!

Always great to refill the tank of camaraderie with the best bunch of people you could meet from all over the country. We are truly blessed to have each other.

What a great day!!!!!

My thanks to Monkey, BrotherPilot & Wolfhound for making this event happen! It was a pleasure to share the range with everyone that attended.

Between the stories, jokes, shooting and smiles, the only thing that could make it better would be to do more of it!

If others have pictures, please post them.

Stay vigilant,

For those interested, Vaportrace showed a few of us an interesting feature on the RWVA Range.

Indian Marker Trees

Trail trees, trail marker trees, crooked trees, prayer trees, thong trees, or culturally modified trees are hardwood trees throughout North America that Native Americans intentionally shaped with distinctive characteristics that convey that the tree was shaped by human activity rather than deformed by nature or disease.[1] A massive network of constructed pre-Columbian roads and trails have been well documented across the Americas, and in many places remnants can still be found of trails used by hunters and gatherers. One unique characteristic of the trail marker tree is a horizontal bend several feet off the ground, which makes it visible at greater distances, even in snow. Even today, modern hunters look for horizontal shapes while hunting deer, elk, and moose.

Can you elaborate on this? I am either unfamiliar with the practice or terminology.
Thanks!

Thanks!

We had full size steel targets at 100, 200, 300 & 400 yards - we also had a steel "shingle" plate at 250 yards.

Each shooter on each of the 4 squads took turns - first, we all engaged the shingle to be as close to a cold bore shot as possible. Then we each took 3 shots at each distance - 100-400. It was a lot of fun!

Kudos to the team that hosted this event.  I could not spend my weekend with a better group.  Those two with the M1 and M1a were in beast-mode.  I learned lot and smiled the entire time.  I have not seen mention of the incredible food we had too.  Thank you for the bringing and sharing.  I felt like a spoiled guest.

The kd red coat was the perfect way to conclude the shooting portion of our day.  It was new to me and a lot of fun to do with steel.

In case anyone is interested, I left Asheboro at 7am and got home after 11pm Sunday.   A priceless trip.

Many thanks to the Mid-Atlantic/NC crew for making us feel so welcome.  Only took me 13 years to finally make it to the "home range."  :-[

From the food to the comraderie to the COF, everything was top-notch.  Special thanks to Monkey for putting this together, and for the surprise Christmas present.

A great way to spend an early December weekend!

This is the only picture I took that day.  If you zoom in, you can see the shingle in its unshot form.

Full disclosure - I missed the cold bore attempt  :wb:  But after everyone was done, I took 3 more shots. one with the same hold as the miss to confirm, and yes, it missed too!  Then I adjusted my hold and hit it twice. Once again, we had sooooo much fun in one day, it was amazing!  ^:)^
