It's always a great weekend at the Hobbs Island Shooting Range... doubly so when it's a Known Distance event!

The weather was chilly - coldest day of the season, but that didn't stop patriots from coming out to join us!

Our shooting included sighter rounds at each of the KD distances to collect Data On Personal Equipment (DOPE) followed by AQTs.  Several of us requalified and a few had rough days.  It just goes to remind us that these skills are perishable and we must persist despite the rough days.

We heard the story of the War of Regulation and Ramblin' Wreck told us about the inspiring heroes at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

Thanks to everyone that came out to shoot this weekend, including many friends from Memphis, DonD from Murray KY, and Ramblin' Wreck from South Pittsburg TN.

My thanks to Google, Willociraptor, Booney, and AnthonyB for helping out at the event.  Also to Ramblin' Wreck to took a break from shooting to help coach fellow-shooters.  Huzzah!

Congratulations to all the KD riflemen and welcome to Kaleb who accepted an Orange Hat and joined the cadre!

I wish I had gotten more pictures... but I'll share what I have because  :pics:

This was my second KD and it was a blast!  Maximum Ordinate, Google and crew provided great instruction and interesting history.   On Saturday weather was cool, but not bad.  We shot lots of sighters and gathered data.  We shoot one AQT and may score was not promising for a patch.  Sunday morning was cold!  we gathered more data then shot an AQT.   Lunch was at the clubhouse and it was good to get out of the wind. It warmed up some in the afternoon, but still no luck with a rifleman score,  It was down to the last AQT.  Standing and seated went well and I was on track.  300 yard prone and Mr. Murphy showed up.  First mag second round FTF.  Yanked out the mag and the round went flying.  Thinking I might need that round I loaded it back in the second mag and loaded it in the rifle.  It this point time was almost up.  Shooting rifleman's cadence I finished in the nick of time and getting 7 hits.  It was down to the 400 and 16 score pushed me over the line with a total score of 41.  Without the advice and encouragement of the instructors I would have gotten things worked out.  Thank you all!!!
