We had another awesome Appleseed weekend celebrating Marksmanship and Heritage at Blue Hills Sportsmens Club near Rice Lake, WI. Thank you to Blue Hills  Sportsmens Club, our students and my fellow Instructors for another safe and successful Project Appleseed event.

Congratulations new Riflemen Luke (cjcb's son  ^:)^) whose best was a 239 and Dan whose best was a 218.

Mike (my son ^:)^) requalified with a best of 226.

Jim at his second Appleseed came close with a 204.

I missed Matt's, Bob's, Josiah's and Nikolas' best scores but they all showed steady improvement throughout the weekend. Persist and you all can earn your patch.

We had two young men amongst us who knew very well what they were about. Zane age 13 and his brother Yates age 11 displayed excellent marksmanship skills as well as strict observation of Appleseed's Four Safety Rules. I predict a Rifleman patch in each of their futures.

Congratulations to Luke and Mike who cleared the Red Coat target (Luke twice).

Luke also deserves some sort of special recognition for shooting Stages 3 and 4 of one of Sunday afternoon's AQTs from the back side as the wind had blown the target loose and that was his only option. I don't recall his score on those two stages but it would have been more than respectable if it had been shot from the front. Luke practiced some major Rifleman's Improvise/Adapt/Overcome in this instance.  O0

Thank you Blue Hills Sportsmens Club for you excellent hospitality and the delicious  hot lunch served both days.

Thank you BugginOut, 22Salty and cjcb...without you guys this event could not have happened.

Speaking of 22Salty...congratulations on your promotion to Instructor. You rocked the house at this event and your promotion was well deserved. HUZZAH and shiver me timbers!

Luke was certainly in "the bubble" on Sunday.

The first AQT he scored 38 points on stage 1 and finished with a 234. It was a reminder to focus on the task at hand and not worry about the things you can't control. I know I have been disheartened by a bad start and lost focus for the remaining stages.

Regarding the "wind aided" target, we were shooting a rapid AQT- 4 minutes total time when the target flipped on its long edge. He shot the third stage from  the reverse side, then the fourth stage the wind was switching. Targets 1, 2 and 4 were reversed. Target 3 was from the front side.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice, â€" is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Thanks to all for the great weekend! The shooters were fantastic and the instruction excellent. It was a pleasure to watch our shooters build a solid foundation for marksmanship. They were super coach able with great attitudes! I'm sure a patch is in their near future. Kevin, Rob and Mike delivered a quality program. It was the best I've seen yet- they were that good!

GO LUKE!!!
Awesome performance. Ya gotta love those reversed shots. Without pictures, It'd be a tough story to believe, but this sure proves the bubble is a POWERFUL thing!
