7 students persevered against the elements. Wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain throughout the day. Wind chill around 25 degrees. Sustained wind speeds of 20 mph with gusts in the 30s. Mud was an inescapable inevitability.

The adverse weather was contrasted by the positive spirits of everyone.

One man earned his winterseed patch with a 211. Another man was knocking on the door with scores just shy of 210.

Thank you to all the wonderful instructors who arrived to help teach marksmanship and share our heritage.

This was...something! Many thanks for the outstanding, quality instruction and insightful tips shared with me by all the shoot bosses, red hats, orange hats, and other rifleman (qualified and aspiring both). I took as much in as I could and tried to make it my own. This is my fourth Appleseed (including one KD), and, without a doubt, the one where I got a chance to demonstrate the truth in, "A rifleman persists." Having qualified, and re-qualified, in my second Appleseed, I am honored (and proud) to have earned a Winterseed patch under adverse conditions. That I was able to qualify is an undeniable testament to the quality of the Appleseed marksmanship program and its instructors.

Special thanks to Iron Mike, and his better half, Momma Bear59: Your enthusiasm and warmth make it easy to get back on the line time and again.

Cheers, all! Enjoy the pics!

WOW!  I think y'all have to be a bit crazy!  BRRRR -- Congrats on your winterseed patch -- I definitely do not see one of those in my future.
ACCEPT YOUR WOBBLE!

It's not about perfection -- it's about progress!!

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again."  Ronald Reagan

Question: Who was the Orange Hat assisting last Sunday? He noticed my rifle is over-gassed (ejecting at 1 o'clock) and recommended a particular gas tube as a fix. Sorry to say, I don't remember his name, or the name of the gas tube. Any help appreciated.

Dave!

Thanks for getting back to me. In the meantime, I knuckled down and engaged my google-fu skills to track down a 'reduced-gas gas tube', found Black River Tactical and, long story short: the new tube is already installed. The difference in port sizes is remarkable! Haven't been back out with it yet. Might get some time in on a 200 yard target on a warm weekend in February--after steady hold factors and reading wind, kneeling is my KD weak-spot. I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers!
