Eleven shooters filled the line at the Wolf Creek Sportsman's Association. It was a full weekend of instruction, history and pistol shooting. The above average temperatures added an additional challenge to a course of fire that was already challenging enough! A covered firing line helped a lot, but the heat still took its toll; all welcomed the frequent afternoon breaks.

Saturday began with introductions and safety briefings before firing the first Red Coat of the weekend. The hit numbers showed that many of the shooters arrived with notable pistol skills, but most still had room for improvement.  Of the eleven shooters nine got all four rounds into the large 44 yard simulated target, six hit the 60 yard, one hit the 100 yard, one hit Pitcairn's button, and one shooter cleared the target; congratulations to Tom M.

The morning's instruction went rapidly and soon it was time for lunch in the clubhouse. The club members provided wonderful lunches both days, featuring shredded chicken sandwiches on Saturday, and pulled pork barbecue on Sunday.

Just after lunch we were ready to begin our Pistol Qualification Tests (PQT's), Rich C. qualified with a 230 on his first PQT and continued to re-qualify on most every target of the weekend. Four PQT's were shot through Saturday afternoon before we yielded to the heat.

All eleven shooters returned for Sunday morning's opening Red Coat and demonstrated the results of Saturday's instruction; all shooters got all four rounds into the large 44 yard simulated target, ten cleared the 60 yard, two ventilated the 100 yard, four hit Pitcairn's button, and one shooter cleared the target; congratulations to Rich C.

More drills followed to help correct shooting errors before resuming PQT's. Eight more Pistol Qualification Tests were fired on Sunday and we gained four more Pistoleer™s; Tom M. received a baptism by shooting the magic qualification number of 210, Little Buddy scored a 212, Mark F. also got wet with a 210, and Charley qualified at the end of the day on her last two targets with a 214 and a 212. It was great to have all the Pistoleer™s re-qualify and confirm their skill levels.

During one of the Sunday afternoon breaks some great history was presented, slowbutsure told of the famous ride by Sybil Ludington, and Third Degree gave an excellent presentation of the history of Sam Colt and the development of his revolvers.

The shooting was of a very high quality by all on Sunday with everyone turning in very respectable scores, but finally heat and fatigue had taken its toll and it was time for the weekend to come to a close.

Thanks go to Meadow for his efforts in arranging and overseeing all the details of hosting the event and keeping things running smoothly. As a special bonus, Meadow earned his twenty-five-shoot pin at this event.  Also, thanks to the rest of the great Instructor crew of Third Degree, Slow and Steady, slowbutsure and Yankee.

"Cooler by the Lake" at Wolf Creek, was the request, but not so lucky this weekend.

Our Boarder Raider, Ray, from Indiana tried to find the fan switch but could not locate it.  So, we continued to take breaks, but the heat got to everyone.  The progress from Saturday to the last red coat on Sunday was great.

Our other Michigan Boarder Raiders, Rich & Tom, seemed to have zeroed in on the PQT. Our other Michigan Boarder Raider, Steve, was on track also.

Our Ohio team also managed well, our club members were on track, but not all were able to turn the corner.  Our Maumee, Ohio shooters put it all together, congratulations.

Wolf Creek is looking forward to having more Appleseed events for Rifle & Pistol in the next season. Looking forward to more "Boarder Raiders" visiting.

Thanks to our local Club members, Gina & Joe, Arron & Family for support at the event & for the fine meals that were available.

Thanks to Shep, Third Degree, Slowbutsure for your support. Your long-distance drives were appreciated.  Thanks to "Slow and Steady" & Yankee for braving the heat also.

Congratulations, to all.

Fantastic Pistol event.  Well done all.  Wish I could have been there.

Crazyduckhunter

Well done folks. A great big thanks to all that either attended and/or worked this event.

Third Degree

I want to extend my congratulations to all of the shooters who worked through the heat. Shep was not kidding about that weather factor. This should have qualified as a humidity-seed.

It is a great thing to witness shooters achieve Pistoleer™ and clear the Red Tombstone.

Many thanks to Meadow for serving as a superb host!

Thank you Shep for another great shoot!

Thanks to Deb (Slow but Sure - I think)  for talking with me about the red dot sights.
What a difference that dot can make!  I've been practicing for Piqua next month and can't wait to try the Appleseed Pistol Clinic from a standing position.   ^:)^

This is from today's practice session:
