What a great Appleseed this past weekend at Central Ohio Coon Hunters near Carroll, OH.  We had eighteen shooters show up Saturday morning looking to work on their skills.

We started the weekend with a welcome, introduction to the goals of RWVA and Project Appleseed, and our normal safety briefing.  This was followed by bringing rifles to the line and we started the event with the Sat morning Red Coat.
Rain was forecast for the entire day so we set up the line under cover of the shoot house.  However, they had not arrived as of the start of the day.

Results were pretty impressive.  We had 13 of 18 put three rounds in the 100 yd target, 8 at 200, 5 at 300, 1 at 400 and 7 joined Daniel Morgan's rangers.  We had one shooter who cleared the Red Coat.  Congrats to Brett for the great start.

We moved to the points of instruction (POI).  The steady hold factors in prone were presented followed by the six steps and NPOA.  Related drills were shot after each POI and we then shot sighting groups in anticipation of IMC.

Then the rains came in and we retired to lunch.  After enjoying complimentary hot dogs (courtesy of COCH), the First Strike was presented by Cadence as well as IMC.

When we returned to the line, sight adjustments were made and confirmation groups were shot. We then moved on to steady hold factors in seated and standing with related drills on our Green Coat targets.

Corvette presented the Second Strike at our afternoon break and we returned to the line.

Next was a practice AQT, followed by the afternoon Red Coat.  Scores were again promising.  We had 14 of 16 at 100, 8 at 200, 4 at 300, 4 at 400, and 4 hit the shingle.  We had a cleared Red Coat.  Congrats Rick for clearing a Red Coat.
Third Strike was presented to close out the day.

Sunday dawned sunny and good temps.  All the shooter returned for day two which was a good sign.  The morning Red Coat showed consistent results.  We had 15 of 18 shooters at 100, 11 at 200, 6 at 300, 4 at 400, and 9 (Huzzah) joined Daniel Morgan.  We had three cleared Red Coats Sunday morning.  Congrats to Scott, AKA and Mike for a great start to Sunday.

After an NPOA drill, we moved on to the AQT grind.

We shot five AQT's on Sunday with great results.  We had five folks shoot the score. Congrats to new Rifleman Phil (211), new Rifleman Forest (229,213) and requalifies by Scott (212, 219), AKA (218), and Roger (217,221,218, 227).

We broke up the AQT grind with a team challenge.  This challenge was a tribute to the original colonies.  Each team of four shooters was instructed to load of 13 rounds between the entire team.  Three with three rounds, one with four.

The teams were then challenged to putting rounds into a 100 yd target, one for each team.  We had four teams, Team Adams, Team Davis, Team Revere, and Team Warren.

The results were amazing.  The top three teams were so close that we needed the total number of V's to break the tie.  The winner was Team Adams (64-12V's) followed by Team Revere (64-5V's) and Team Davis (63-5V's).  Awards were given to the top three teams and we moved on to the final AQT and the last Red Coat of the weekend.

Results were again strong.  We had 14 of 15 at 100, 8 at 200, 5 at 300, 4 at 400, and 6 hit the shingle.  And, Scott cleared his target.
We closed the event with another call to action and a challenge for all to get involved in their communities.  It was another great Appleseed at COCH.

My thanks to the shooters for having a safe event and to the Instructors (Cadence, Black_Bird, AKA, Cactus Jack, Naga, Patriot12, and ChevyShooter) that helped with the event.   And, our thanks again to Central Ohio Coon Hunters for hosting our event.

Another outstanding Appleseed event in Carroll, OH.

Congratulations to our new riflemen and those who re-qualified. For those that are knocking on the door - remember a rifleman persists.

Thanks to all the instructors who signed up and special shout out to Cactus Jack for cooking a delicious pot roast over a camp fire for Saturday night. Really enjoyed the fellowship of everyone at Camp Liberty.

A big thanks to the Central Ohio Coon Hunters Association for letting us use their fabulous facilities and proving lunch both days.
