Sixteen shooters joined us at our Patriot's Day event as light rain started our morning. After ArmyVet's telling of the 1st Strike and a safety briefing the shooters went to the line. As roughly half the shooters had never shot a rifle before, we first covered the manual of arms for the Ruger 10/22 and how to prep magazines.

After the first Red Coat target the instruction began in earnest. At lunch Eagle Keeper did an amazing job with the 2nd Strike, and CorgiMom broke down IMC for even the newest shooters on the line.

Regulator did an amazing job running the Patriot's Day Volley. After the volley we finished up instruction, shot an AQT and a Red Coat, then retired to the classroom for Bluegrass Colonel's telling of the 3rd Strike, some awards, and closing comments.

Congratulations to first-time attendees: John for shooting a 224, and Angel for clearing the final Red Coat and knocking on the door of a rifleman's score.
Also, congratulations to the instructors that requalified: Ramblin Wreck with a 238, CorgiMom with a 223, Regulator with a 213, and ArmyVet with a 211.

Many thanks to all the shooters and instructors that made this a wonder event.

Ramblin' Wreck

Let the record show that it did not rain after I got there so I was not responsible for bringing the rain as I've been accused of for years. I think we can retire the "Black Cloud Brandon" nickname now.  **)
It was a good day with so many new shooters on the line who had never heard the message.

See you on the line.

Saturday was my first Appleseed event. Thank you to everyone that put this together. I felt welcomed as soon as we drove in and throughout the day. I learned a lot more than I had ever thought I would from a 1 day event, and definitely plan on returning to more. Thank you to the instructors that helped me achieve my rifleman's patch.

Congrats, John!   Now you'll just have to repeat that with me breathing down your neck!

A great anniversary event, both generally and for me personally.  I had a long-time neighbor, Angel (whom I have been pestering to attend for a very long time), and a brand-new neighbor and fast friend (OP 78).  Both of them did fabulously well.  The long-time neighbor cleaned the Hits Count / Redcoat Target at the end of the day, and my new neighbor earned his Rifleman patch!  Huzzah!!!

The shooters did a great job, were teachable, enthusiastic, and attentive - especially during history presentations.

The instructors are great and it is always a privilege to serve with them.

I am humbled to be allowed to participate in Project Appleseed!

My father didn't serve in WWII.  It wasn't for lack of trying.  He attempted to enlist 3 separate times.  The last time the doctor said he was too short.  He responded that he signed up again because he said he saw a poster that was recruiting short men to be pilots.  The doctor said, "Short, yes.  But this is ridiculous."  In my book, he's still a hero.

Maybe it's just an error on my end, but I am only seeing 1 photo...
