A low turn out shoot no doubt about it.
Also a very high quality shoot.

In an effort to get things going for our IIT's we got all of them on the line this weekend and worked a fast safe and smooth line.
We had 8 shooters, found 2 riflemen (hey Tarbutts thats 25%), recruited another IIT and made some good friends.
Also teaching opportunities for all of our IIT's

BlueFeather's outstanding organizational and converting difficulty to opportunity skills (we just don't have problems in NM) have earned her appropriate recognition as a Shoot Boss, doubling our in state capability. Now New Mexico can still Appleseed when I'm down helping the Texicans  O0

Unlike the TarButts from Yanceyville we had high class coffee provided by a sponsor who has been on the Appleseed trail with us. Appleseeders are good people and take care of each other. Afraid we had no mud or rain but we did get sunburned.  ;D  NM Appleseeders will henceforth wear sombreros or pith helmets of brilliant color, appropriate to their status.
Pictures will follow soon as TaosGlock downloads 'em.

CSHR?  I can't wait to hear this story!

Here come the pics!

The first Las Cruces, NM shoot. O0
8 of Las Cruces' finest American's showed up to learn about their heritage and marksmanship in the "Land of Enchantment."
The day was cold, 36 degrees and pretty windy. By afternoon we had to add guy wires and weights to the target line due to the wind.
We reminded them the targets were not standing still on Apr. 19. ;) That famous bright New Mexico sunshine made everything perfect.
Adapt, persist and overcome they did.
With 8 instructors ( 2 RI and 6IIT's) and SamD at the helm, the "time monkey" was DOA. &)  :~

We got in 3 QDAQT's on Sat. and hammered out 5 on Sun.
These folks were incredibly persistent. This group was shooting at pretty high standards and many getting at or near the 180-200's.

We did the 3 Strikes of the Match at lunch Sat, and Dangerous Old Men and Women too!, on Sun. lunch.

To break things up on Sunday, we did an upside down QDAQT.
Then we followed it up with a team competition shoot. We split the group in two, each group shot into a Stage 2 AQT.
The team with the most holes outside of their target was second place. Prep 40 with a 2 minute limit. It was a great fun and mental boost for the shooters.
We got in one more QDAQT, a bit of history, and then a final RedCoat.

On Sat. we got one new Rifleman with a 224 score. For the rest of the weekend he shot well into the 220"s. Congratulations Harry!
Then Scott stepped up for an Orange hat so we have a new IIT! Fantastic!
Sunday we had another Rifleman, Edward, with a 212. Congratulations Edward!

What a pleasure and honor to work with such a great group of American's.

Instructor's, up and at em'!
CSHR and redneck stayed at our house. This was the sunrise view as we left for the breakfast meeting.
The lights were still twinkling as we left. As Sam implied, coffee was supplied by Ocotillo Roasters located in Coas Bookstore.
Stop by for a cup and support your fellow Appleseeders. We are also about building community.

SamD, SB Extraordinaire:

Nearly a one to one shooter/instructor ratio! Orange Hats L-R, Buck, redneck, SamD, Milt, BlueFeather, Spinner, CSHR
Somewhere, there should be some red hats and a green hat...musta been the sun. ::)

BlueFeather. That smile means we had 2 Riflemen, one new IIT and we were having fun doing it!
Oh, and she is now the Las Cruces Shoot Boss. Congratulations BlueFeather!

Standing to prone. With perfect index, these shooters really knew how to get down in that stage 3 position quickly and safely!
We had the safe and beautiful 50 yard pistol range bay all to ourselves. New Mexican's routinely shoot pistols at this distance.
You should see what our Riflemen can do! >:D

Marci was at the EP AS and came up from El Paso to join us again! Persit she did!

Standing position:

New Riflemen!:
Congrats Harry! We gave a prize for the first Rifleman, the book Patriots, by
A.J. Langguth. SamD and BlueFeather to the right.

And Edward! Persistence paid off! Congratulations sir! And with a very unique Mannlicher stocked 10/22!
Edward and SamD (right):

Scott signs on as an IIT as SamD signs the hat!
Welcome aboard and thanks for stepping up sir!

CSHR explains stage 2. That's right, 5 shots and please, on your target!
This incredible group of shooters managed 8 QDAQT's this weekend!
There was lots of improvement by the end of Sunday. Good job shooters!
The Gunsight Mtns. are in the background...how appropriate is that!

The laser demo was great for showing NPOA, Rifleman's Cadance, and some common firing line errors. Buck was the model here.

The Ball & Dummy drill. Shooters were paired up, one as coach and one as shooter.
Under the watchful eye of Milt, they detected and cured any shooting problems.

The shooters! At this shoot, we had 2 models of rifles, 10/22's and 795's. You can bring what you got and we will turn noise into skill!
From M1, M1A's to AR's, AK's/SKS's to 22 rifles. All rifles (under 35 caliber) are welcome!

The view from our range just as we finished the last RedCoat as the sun was getting low.
The majestic Organ Mtns. rise to nearly 9,000 feet. "Purple mountains majesty"
The Land of Enchantement!

Sunset on day 1 as we finally left the range. BlueFeather tapes the entrance off to our reserved range. CSHR took the pic!

A huge thanks to the IIT's, some who traveled a days drive to join us here!

And now it's back to work...we're gonna do it again in a few weeks and quadruple the numbers!

Great team, great work.

Does that mean you want a lovely brilliant orange hat?  We have one just for you!

Where's the mud.  It's not fun without mud.

Haven't seen mud in a long time around here.

Believe it or not the last precip we had here was for the 27-28 December Appleseed in Alamogordo.
Right now I'd love to have some mud.
