What a fantastic weekend! Finally, Florida provided a little October relief from the heat on Saturday. Sunday was forecast to be more typically Florida…Tropical. With a tropical disturbance off the west coast, the forecast was to be a deluge with thunderstorms. We did get some rain but nothing like forecast. That being said, what a great group of folks that turned out! We had families, friends, and a couple experienced veteran Appleseeders Kevin and Paul chasing requalification Rifleman scores with centerfire rifles upgraded from rimfire practicing for an upcoming KD (Known Distance) in November. Not only did they requalify now with centerfire they were knocking on the door of distinguished scores! With scores topping 226 and 236. Keep it up gentlemen!  :---

Saturday started out with some equipment issues. Some loaner rifles resolved those issues. Most notable was Larry. Larry, a left-handed shooter was using a right-handed bolt action gun that just failed to extract almost every time. Sunday with a different rifle, proved different for Larry using an auto loader that functioned the scores started climbing reaching a 218!  ^:)^ Congratulations Larry to the weekend's new Rifleman, Huzzah! The scores were most improved on Sunday with all drinking in the instruction and history. Their persistence paid off. Most everyone was Sharpshooters or Marksman by the end of the weekend.

With fathers and sons (9 and 13yr old) a little friendly Morgan's shingle shot competition was in order. During the KD lesson some steel was setup at 100 yards. Directly after the KD lesson father and son took turns using their newly acquired skills to attempt to outdo one another. The first young man acquired NOPA and began ringing steel. Scores were recorded and then Dad's turn. It was then they were told the dads had to shift their NPOA to the right to engage the 8" steel rather than the 18" their sons were using. First pair Larry and Matthew, Dad won the round. Second pair Casey and Maddox, Maddox took the victory!

Van and Captain Ray, longtime friends where shooting very well. Van with a 169 a sold Marksman, one point away from Sharpshooter and Van comfortably in the Sharpshooter category with a 179!

It was a truly great weekend with a group of good shooters, great patriots, and great instructors! I want to extend a sincere thank you to each of you for taking the time and spending it with us at Appleseed.

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed -- where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.
