Interesting article from a Appleseed Instrctor on a cause for the 10/22 FTE occasionally. I recently bought the third edition of the collectors edition and have suffered occasional FTE. I tried a new Kidd ejector, overspray removal, mini-mags, magazine lip smoothing, 1000 rounds, no luck yet. I don't believe my problem is movement but I will look for this possibility

Thanks. I modified my original URL   It got  a little "y" on the tail end of the URL somehow. Likely fat fingers from typing on this midget  keyboard

Good article and absolutely correct.

I've seen AR's in 5.56 "short stroke" when fired by an inexperienced shooter but work perfectly when fired by an experienced shooter.  Soft shouldering a rifle is just as bad as limp wristing a pistol.

Good article. That makes absolute sense to me. I found it particularly interesting that the rifle functioned just fine without the extractor for 50 rounds.

Good point. It brings to mind in teaching steady hold factors to instruct shooters to pull the stock back into the shoulder with the trigger hand   FM 23-10

I like going back through these older posts. Now that I have quite a bit more practical experience I too have seen the effects of a shooter'soft shouldering' a rifle. I loaned a 10/22 to a shooter right after I used it to requalify with. Rifle was functioning perfectly. The new shooter had been having trouble with two other 10/22's previously to using mine. All FTEs.

First couple shots into using mine and it was one FTE after another!  What the....?

I didn't know soft shouldering was a thing until now. The young shooter didn't want to use my rifle either so she switched over to a Tippman. She had better luck with that.

At the time I was completely confounded as to why three 10/22s in a row were having so many FTEs. In the back of my mind I began to suspect it was likely the shooter, I couldn't diagnose it. Soft shouldering. Makes perfect sense now that I have read it. Thanks Lomshek!

Happy to help! I've definitely spent my share time scrolling through old post and trying to absorb the knowledge from previous generations.
