With ammunition supplies drying up and prices steadily climbing, I'm wondering if we as a group would not benefit from a single message board category that deals with available ammunition that readers have discovered on line or elsewhere. That way we'd have several pairs of eyes on the lookout for deals and help make the Appleseed community aware of there existence.

I'd suggest that ultimately the focus would be on the more commonly used sizes: .22lr, 7.62 x 39, .223, .303, .308, .30 carbine and, of course, anything else someone thought to tell us about.

Also AR15.com and M14Firing Line both have good threads on ammo availability and prices.

We got Appleseeding to do here, let those other folks do all this work for us  ;)

Actually to keep where we need to be, we should probably be dropping a few categories.

Think about it people, we have icebergs of ourt own right here and now that need to be set aside.
I'll keep my suggestions to mysef, you come up with a few.

"Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother's sword has been sheathed in a brother's breast and that the once-happy and peaceful plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by a race of slaves.  Sad alternative!  But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?" - George Washington - from a letter to a close friend after the events of April 19, 1775

"There is no nation on earth powerful enough to accomplish our (the United States) overthrow.  Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter.  From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger.  I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing." - Daniel Webster, June 1, 1837

I'll make you a promise.  Start instructing at Appleseeds and you won't be using near as much ammo.  Your trigger time vs. time on the range will drop way down.  I have rifles that think I've died they haven't seen me in so long.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

We could not even hope to come close to the effort already being put forth by the AR15.com community.  There are exponentially more members of that board than this one.  This is in addition to the obvious point that we have plenty of direct Appleseed work to do to take up everyone else's time already.  Anyone who doesn't already have enough to do just has to give a shout and it will be piled on as requested ;D

AR15 provides the link I submitted to you.  That site often has well over 5000 people on line at a time.  Ammoman is listed under the .308 ammo category... O0

Visiting that site and advertising Appleseeds got me a location for 2 of our Wisconsin Appleseeds this year... O0
I know of at least 10 (and likely more that I am not aware of) Appleseed attendees who would not have heard of Appleseed if it were not for this advertising.  Just like everywhere else out on the world of sheep and ostriches, we have to put the message out to alot of people to just get some of them to attend.
We already have an ammo section and that is enough.  My point in relation to this thread is that ARFCOM (and the link found there and posted here) is an excellent place to find out about ammo deals instead of wasting bandwidth and time on this site posting every deal.......
We have bigger chickens to fry.... <:)

Gentlemen,

Perhaps you've mistaken my intent. Some of us here have yet to achieve the lofty point of excellence with a rifle known and coveted as RIFLEMAN. That means plenty of practice and lots of spent ammunition, .22lr or whatever. Others seek to be quite capable with larger caliber weapons for other reasons.

To that end and in conjunction with the known need to have an ample supply of ammunition for the various weapons one prefers as well as my interest in making sure that my Appleseed brothers and sisters were more likely to have first crack at deals that I encountered was my point.

If it is the decision of the majority that such a list is not required, I'm fine with that. I'll just continue my individual searches and buy what I'm able.

Yes, I agree, the Appleseed program is a wonderful idea and an important one, too. But so is preparation and making sure that each dollar that can be expended toward the underlying sport of marksmanship can ultimately be stretched as far as it can go.

Thank you for your time.

It comes down to duplication of efforts.  My whole point in response to your proposal is that others outside of Appleseed are already exerting effort hours towards finding the cheapest ammo.  They even have it listed in a single spot.   My recommendation is for people to check there first along with the usual suspects.  www.aimsurplus.com, www.wideners.com, www.cheaperthandirt.com, www.sportsmansguide.com, etc.....
If you are looking for something to occupy your time in the spirit of advancing the Appleseed mission, there are many much more worthy tasks.   The only reason this board exists is to advance Appleseed.
That having been said, if someone finds an extraordinary ammo deal, they should feel free to briefly list the type, price and a link to it in a thread in the ammo category which already exists.   No one is saying that a heads-up regarding deals and steals is neither appreciated nor helpful.   I am sure that everyone can appreciate saving money on ammunition purchases which are becoming exorbitant at times depending on your caliber of choice. The intended message being conveyed is that this should not be thought of as an official task nor is this task a high priority in the mission of Appleseed.

There is a Category here on the Forum called "Deals and Steals." Maybe that would be an appropriate place (or not) to post info like this? It is located here http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=19.0

"Deals and Steals" is the place to put it.

With that, I think we're done here, so, please no further replies needed.

A new area will not be made, if you know of an ammo deal, feel free to put it in the proper spot, not here.
