Maximize your Appleseed energy to make this program grow, and help fill the empty spots

Despite all the rain on Saturday, we had a great Appleseed at the Piqua Fish and Game. We moved the firing line to shoot off the concrete pad, which kept shooters out rain but limited our space; eighteen shooters gave us a very full line.

We moved along as quickly as we could. The light rains started early in the morning and continued all day, but became heavy at times. Temperatures were around 50 degrees, but felt cooler with the moisture. Targets became damp but held together enough for scoring. Everyone took the conditions in stride and without complaint; after all, what could be better than learning new skills and hearing some History at an Appleseed?

We only had time for one AQT before heavy rain shut us down for the day. But we did have one new Rifleman, Rick F. scored a 224; Rick also reconfirmed on Sunday with a 220, 214 and 234.

Sunday's weather was MUCH more agreeable, a bit breezy in the morning but no rain. We moved the target line back so shooters could spread out on the grass and be more comfortable. After natural point of aim and rifleman's cadence drills, we shot two AQT's before lunch. Congratulations to Tom C. for earning his rifleman's patch with a 214, he later reconfirmed with a 220.  Riflemen's scores continued throughout the day, with Katelyn A. shooting a 219, and Corie M. scoring a 212 on his last AQT of the day.

We had numerous Riflemen reconfirmation scores over the weekend; Dale C. with 217, 219 and 228, Darold N. 227 and 222, and also Nalin P. shot a 222 and 213.

A team pumpkin shoot was held Sunday afternoon. Shooters were divided into teams of four with twenty rounds each and given thirty-five seconds to do as much damage as possible. The team with the least amount of pumpkin left was the winner, congratulations to team two.

Sunday evening's Redcoat numbers were very impressive, we had sixteen shooters and fifteen were proficient at the 100-yard simulated target, twelve at 200, eleven at 300, eight at 400, seven hit the shingle, and three cleared their target!

We had an excellent team of instructors at the event; Chad, Rattlehead, Doc Willi, Thomas F, Cactus Jack, Haley Beth and Purple Patch, thanks to all of them for their dedication.

Sounds like a great event with challenging conditions.  Huzzah to all involved.  Wish I could have been there.
