AAR Gaston SC October 19-20, 2019

[Ramblin' Wreck]

The old Wreck headed East to the Palmetto State to help the cadre there with a 25 meter event the weekend of October 19-20. I've been in the program since 2011 but had never done an event in South Carolina and I was looking forward to it. Looming over the event for days before was a tropical storm that was due sometime Saturday and was forecast to drop up to 1.5" of rain on the area. At the instructor meeting Saturday morning we developed a strategy to begin shooting early and delay history till later in the day when we might be forced to take a break.

We managed to get to almost 10:30 before the rain started and it didn't quit till way after the final cease fire and benediction on Saturday. Out of 19 shooters who began the day, thirteen hung in there even during the rain and wind. HUZZAH!

Day 2 was beautiful several shooters who left the day before returned and the SC cadre delivered instruction with simplicity and precision. By the end of the day there were 5 new shooters who new very well what they are about. Congratulations to all the new patch earners and especially to Hope who got more than a sprinkling of water from the North Bridge.
