We had eight motivated and fun shooters show up Saturday morning bright and early to work on their skills at full distance at Tusco Rifle Club near New Philadelphia, Ohio.  The morning was crisp but sunny and calm.  If was the start of as perfect a fall weekend as Ohio ever gets.  Sunny, low humidity, crisp in the morning and warm in the afternoon.  Trees around the range turning to their fall colors.  Wow, was a perfect weekend.

After a welcome and the safety brief, we reviewed the fundamentals of KD.  Discussed recommended come ups, approaches to shooting the event (doping each stage vs BSZ and hold overs/unders).  We discussed the agenda for the weekend and soon moved to the 600 yd range to start the event.

Saturday morning was dedicated to shooting sighters at the various distances, making sight adjustments based on the sighters, confirming the adjustments and recording the final settings for each range.  Our biggest problem Saturday morning was Mother Nature.  She sent a very persistent group of wild turkeys that were determined to munch on the grass between the 400 and 600 yard lines.  On multiple occasions we had to interupt the shooters with an early Cease Fire, clear the line and run down in a car and chase them off the range.  First we chased them into the trees on the right of the range and they circled around the backstop and came back onto the range from the left.  There were a number of comments such as "anybody like roast turkey?" "I got a great dressing recipe." and "Thanksgiving is just around the corner."  Finally in the afternoon, they figured out that they needed to go somewhere else.

The club had a great lunch available for donation and the shooters took great advantage of it.  We talked about the life of Paul Revere right after lunch and returned to the line.

The day ended on a high note with two folks shooting a qualifying score.  BamaFan7 requalified with a 45/50 and Todd earned his KD rocker with a 40/50

We picked up where we left off on Sunday morning and Sunday was even nicer than Saturday.  Just a breath of wind coming from our backs.  Four AQTs later, we had a bunch of qualifying scores.  BamaFan7 added another 45, a 47 and earned a distinguished KD with a 48.  Todd backed up his Sat score with a pair of 41's.  Tom put up 42, 47, and a 45.  Dom was close on Sunday with a 37.

Right after lunch we had a target identification and range estimation session using a variety of targets of different sizes at different distances.

We ended the day working on come ups to 600.  The shooters did a great job getting hits on paper at 600 yds using the recommended come ups.  The day ended with us tearing down the line and policing and sorting brass.  A final call to action was presented and warm good byes were shared all around.

Another great event at Tusco.  This is the last KD on this year's schedule.  We will have more next year.  If you have your patch and are wondering what is next, grab an AR and come join us at a KD.

What an excellent weekend for a kd at new philly!  Couldnt ask for better weather, comradiere,  or entertainment!  Perfect shooting weather, the range was dry(ish) for a change. So close, but valuable data was obtained, as well as incriminating videos of our state coordinator chasing turkeys in a van! Cant wait until next year!

cwcdl79,

Post that video and I will ban "stuffed cabbage" from all future Appleseed events.  >:D

Great to work with you this past weekend.  It was a very special event.  And, a big thank you to Tusco Rifle Range for hosting us.  What a great range.

What a phenomenal weekend. I sure missed the Appleseed family and it was great to be around such good folks. Thank you Corvette for a top notch shoot as always. I can't wait to see what 2020 brings on the PA trail. Huzzah!

Tusco is a great range, and it sounds like the weather was a lot nicer than a couple of Julys ago.

Good Lord willing, I'll make it out there again sometime. Little on this earth can beat a KD in good company.

Sounds like a great time. I wanted to attend so badly but when a family member get married you gotta do what you gotta do. Cant wait to attend a KD.
