21 Sea Cadets (from as far away as NY, IN, and FL) descended on Ramseur for an advanced marksmanship training, or what we'd call an RBC. The cadets braved the brutal Carolina summer heat as they practiced the marksmanship skills that are their heritage. Out of 21 cadets, there were 9 new riflemen and 2 re-qualifications. Two cadets got splashed with North Bridge water, and the high score for the week was 248 (however, it was yet another 248 for Wilbur - so does it count?) The high score for one of the first time students was 227 - congratulations Cameron!

The cadets got a chance to experience the full gamut of shooting disciplines, and Appleseed's best people came out to teach the cadets. The week started with gaining basic skills at 25M, and moved on to shooting KD with AR 15 rifles. Just as the cadets were getting comfortable building stable positions with a web sling, Hawkeye put on a field shoot which challenged the cadets to shoot popups out to 460 yards while building the best stable position they could muster shooting across the back seat of a van. Thaddeus put the cadets through the new pistol course, and Aim-Small-Hit-Small gave the cadets an amazing shotgun course. To top it off, the cadets had a trap tournament. In all, the cadets put over 14,000 rounds down range. One day, the cadets shot 9 AQTs.

As shoot boss, I had a dream team of instructors:
* Henry Foxall regaled the cadets with the tour of flags and revolutionary war navy based stories.
* Jyorb watched out for the health of the cadets, keeping track of weather conditions, and made his own super charged electrolyte drink.
* Vaportrace took new shooters under his wing, built their confidence, and made new riflemen. Also, Vaportrace taught the cadets how to shoot trap, and ran the trap tournament.
* Rimbo brought his rock solid skills, instructed the cadets, and ran the line.
* Little Zody and Laertes took on any job that needed doing an got things done.
* Moylan and Hornblower came out for the pistol training, and helped with both the pistol instruction and on the KD line.

All-in-all, it was a terrific week - yes, there is hope for the country! One cadet also chose to take an orange hat.
